View Full Version : Do you like your voice?

I've heard endless people say, at one time or another, that they don't like hearing their own voice, and so many seem to hate having to leave messages on answer phones.

I'm not overly conscious of my own voice, I don't have a strong accent (IMO) so it's ok. But I really hate hearing it played back :joker:

The most regular comment I get is that I sound young on the phone, and yeah that's hardly an insult but when people ring me and then ask is your mum in its a bit much! I'd much rather be told I have a sexy womanly voice hehe. An ex did actually say that to me once, he'd been on the sherry (kidding) and said I should do chat lines. Haha, I couldn't do that without laughing, wouldn't be able to take it seriously.

So, do you like your voice? Or not?

I actually like my voice it's quite regional. I've recorded my voice on a lot of occasions so I can hear myself back lol yes I'm sad.

I like my voice, its is funny hearing it back as its not natural, plus if you do a youtube audition, for bb and watch it back then its even funnier.

We used to record our voices as children for various reasons (this was in the days before the net and games consoles, and when CD's were futuristic) and my voice made me cringe.

No, I don't like having an Irish accent but I'm hoping I'll just accquire a nice London one once I've lived there long enough, plus I really want one so I'm hoping determination factors into it.
I havn't got a very strong Irish accent, you can just tell I'm Irish so that's something at least.

I like my voice. I used to hate it but I've made it work for me. What I do wish though is that it was a bit stronger, sometimes my voice wavers and it sounds like I'm on the verge of tears or I'm not very sure of myself which is quite irritating at times; but I like the sound of it and the way I speak.

I think my voice is pretty normal and I don't really have an accent so I guess it's fine. I can't stand hearing it being played back on something though, I feel like it sounds awful .

I don't mind it in general, but a few people back home have told me I'm developing an accent since I've lived here (about 12 years now). If I am, I'm in denial ;) I don't want to sound like people here.

Seriously, though, I'd rather have an Irish accent than this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1tA5nN3QVQ

How could Irish even compare?

I have a strong Scottish accent and people from other countries/areas tend to have difficulty understanding me quite a lot.

I have been told my voice also sounds quite husky, I don't know whether that's a good or bad thing.

So meh I don't really know if I like my voice but it is what it is I suppose

And I have just realised I typed this all out and still never really answered the question.

I don't like mine because it's too deep and because when I was younger I had a speech impediment, and even though it's fixed now I'm always afraid it will creep back up :suspect: I love my accent though, it's a Boston accent except I pronounce most 'r's. I live in Maine but my family are all from the Boston area and thank god I got their accent and not the drunken hillbilly speak of where I live.

No, I always move out of shot of cameras and if I hear a video of my voice I hate it.

I'm not really self conscious but when it comes to cameras and recording devices I run for my life.

I like my voice, but..

At work, I had to talk to someone I have never met on the phone several times.
When we met finally, he said "Oh you have a young voice!"

Thank you very much.

My voice is horrible, I have this really thick Brummie accent and my voice is really deep.

So what I try and do now is to speak quietly when I'm doing a recording, the only time I have to be loud is when I'm speaking to my Nan on the phone but even then I struggle and it comes across really awkward.:joker:

Why do you record your voice? (nosey parker)

I don't much like my voice no :p

I always wanted a more feminine voice. To me, my voice sounds mannish.

Here's what I sound like (a poetry reading I did on youtube a few years ago):

You have a lovely speaking voice, Dana :) I find poetry such a good way to express feelings, whether happy or sad ones. Personal poetry can be a trigger to a playback video in the mind of some of the happy times.

Sadly, I inherited my father's singing voice, and he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. I love a good sing though, don't you?

When I've got my car roof down, I make the mistake of still singing along to whatever's playing on the car stereo. I do get some funny looks... But hey, we're tone deaf and we're proud, right? Right.

Well, depending on your actual voice, that could be a real shame, or a kindness from God. I bet you sing like an Angel, Zee.
