..inspired by this 'race row' over sauce in Scotland...are you a brown or a red sauce person..?...

IT’S a fast food choice that defines Edinburgh and Glasgow . . . the colour of the sauce you slap on your chips.

But the ancient grudge that divides two cities has reared its head again after a disgruntled punter was told there was a charge if he wanted tomato sauce – but not Capital favourite salt ‘n’ sauce. Glasgow-born Tony Winters is taking his complaint to trading standards after a Capital chippy tried to charge him 25p for a small sachet of Heinz
tomato ketchup. He says he is being unfairly treated because he is Glaswegian and that that amounts to “racial discrimination”.

Feeling peckish, he went to the Gold Sea, Ferry Road, and ordered a sausage supper for himself, and a hamburger and fish supper, for his fiancé and a friend. But he left with a real chip on his shoulder after staff told him there was a charge for his ketchup while the Edinburgh favourite –salt and sauce – was free

I'm a red through and through....hair, football team and sauce!

I went to a pub the other day where you had to pay for ketchup but brown sauce was on the condiment table....disgraceful.

I wouldn't put brown sauce on my chips. I only have it with a bacon sandwich or a fry-up.

I don't really have tomato sauce either. Only in corned beef sandwiches.

Hate red sauce :yuk:
Love Brown sauce but think both should be free in a cafe/restaurant/chippy.

I use red more often I guess, but I like both equally.

It's close but probably ketchup just because a burger wouldn't be the same without it.

Prefer garlic and herb over both, but ketchup is a close second.

It's always been like that in Edinburgh, it's always salt n sauce (brown sauce) they don't even give you vinegar unless you ask.

Brown sauce for me if it's chips we are talking about.
