If Novo can have a scottish league thread, I'd figured why not?
A huge game happened last night between the top 2 teams in the league standings right now, Seattle Sounders FC and Real Salt Lake (Real is pronounced like madrid's Real) where the Sounders won 2-0 to jump to the top of the table. Which despite being at the top of the table at the end of the season doesn't give you the MLS cup, it gets you a trophy called the Supporters' Shield, A spot in the North American equivalent of the champions league, and Home Field Advantage for the playoffs up to the MLS Cup Final (If you make it there.)

Watching Portland Timbers and Colorado Rapids play against each other right now.
Current scoreline is 1-0 Portland thanks to a impressive chipshot by Diego Valeri.
Still hate Portland though.

Last Night, Seattle Sounders FC and LA Galaxy played a nationally televised game on NBC Sports, both of the main players they were advertising, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, were both matchday scratches. (Landon had a ankle issue while Dempsey hurt his hamstring in a closed door practice earlier in the week) NBC Sports has had hardly any luck with any soccer matches this year
The game ended in a tie, Eddie Johnson scored off a corner kick from Mauro Rosales for Seattle in the 23rd minute. And Robbie Keane scored off a free kick just before halftime for LA.
Even though I think the coverage for the MLS is great they need to work on it a little bit, glad to see it being advertised during EPL games on NBC Sports Network. Because even though Attendance is improving, the TV ratings aren't (Although some people forget there's an ESPN2 and other networks than ESPN here in the states)
I think if America does well in Brazil that will help alot. It is kind of hard to find a footing on TV due to Football, Basketball, and Baseball. (There's only 3 games televised regarding on a Free To Air Network (Meaning NBC, FOX, CBS, ABC etc.) all on NBC)

There's a pivotal game tomorrow between #1 and 2 in the league, New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders respectiviley.
If Seattle wins they regain the top spot in the league, If they tie or RBNY wins, New York reamins on top.
Game is on ESPN in the US.
I forgot to mention this but the other day i watched DC United v Chicago Fire and DC dominated all game but Chicago Fire ended up winning 3-0 in the end, Sean Johnson played the game of his life in goal for Fire, made 3 or 4 world class saves and was so good at claiming the ball in the box, noticed he has been playing for America a bit more recently as well.

Yeah, DC United is literately the Wigan of the MLS right now. Worst team but yet they managed to win the US Open Cup (US version of the FA cup) and a spot in the next year's CONCACAF Champs League as well. They can't get relegated since that's not set up right now. (There is a 2nd and 3rd tier right now but I don't expect to see a regulation system to the MLS in the next decade but it could be possible in the decade after that. If that was set up now, it would hurt the MLS and Association Football in the US more than help it IMO and a bunch of people agree)
I think they've won only 4 MLS games this year and only a few points.
I recall watching that game as well this summer. Pretty Good game.

Despite not being called up to the USMNT, Clint Dempsey will be playing for Seattle Sounders FC tonight against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Whoever wins will win the Cascadia Cup (A series between Vancouver,Portland,Seattle whoever performs the best between the three of them wins the Cascadia cup).
And Yes MLS plays during the international window. It's nearing the end of the regular season as well.

By the way, New York Red Bulls won the supporters shield meaning they get into the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League and have Home Field Advantage in the playoffs to the MLS Cup Final if they make it there. First Silverware ever for the club. Was a club (back then they were known as the NY/NJ Metrostars) since 96 in the MLS and to finally get some silverware has to be a major acomplishment for them.
The last game of the regular season is being played right now, LA galaxy at Seattle Sounders FC. Just kicked off.

David Beckham has chosen Miami as his location for a MLS Franchise that he got as a deal for transferring into the league.
More than likely the next expansion franchise will probably be Atlanta. The final location of the 4 new clubs ready by 2020 will probably not be in the Southeast.
I kinda wonder where MLS is going next in expanding it's Brand in the US. With the growing popularity of English Premier League in the US I wouldn't be surprised in the next 10 or so years that a Regulation and Promotion system is implemented within US Soccer. I don't think it should be implemented for now (With NASL being the second tier possibly renamed MLS2, and USL Pro renamed MLS3 and the Third tier). Baaad idea to do so. I also wonder if they might crown a winner at the end of the season instead of a playoff system? I think that could bring in new fans in the US.

Seattle won last night 2-0, Evans scored in the 28th Minute and Eddie Johnson scored off a Dempsey assist in the 93rd minute.
Meaning they face Portland in the 1 vs 4 Home and Home Series. This is actually the MLS' front office dream come true since Portland and Seattle hate each other. This is basically the equivalent of Real Madrid vs Barca in the MLS.

Well, Preseason has begun and here's some news
LA Galaxy has formed LA Galaxy II in the USL Pro, which is the third tier league in the US.
This isn't a surprise and a smart move by them, because thier academy is pretty good in the US. Seattle Sounders FC and FC Dallas are also rumored to make their own B/II teams. (And Yes, All MLS Sides have Academy teams, Philadelphia Union even made their own High School)
Beckham's Club in Miami is set to be introduced tomorrow. They don't have an official location to place a new Soccer Specific Stadium yet but it's rumored to be on an island just off the Port of Miami. 2016 is the start date for them.

Whats this about Drogba to Sounders at the end of the season?
I've never really read into it myself yet but saw that rumbling around on twitter. I'd say it's possible given that Seattle just completed the transfer option on Montero.
The Current US TV Deal with ESPN and NBCSN ends this year as well (it's always planned to end on WC years) it was worth a pretty poor amount a year. But The New Deal which will be with ESPN and Fox Sports starting in 2015, is expected to be worth 75 Million a year for the English US rights alone according to Forbes. The Deal hasn't been confirmed yet but it's bouncing around for quite a long time.

Their budget should be mostly gone if it isn't already. Toronto's owners are rich but the average budget for an MLS Side is Not alot of cash compared to Europe. They're only allowed to spend so much of their money anyway.
The most valuable side according to Forbes is Seattle, since they paid a 30 million entrance fee, They've more than tripled that I think.
Also somehow a bunch of trustworthy US outlets thought that the rumor about Beckham calling his club Miami Vice was real...including ESPN and they reported it as if it was just announced. MLS reps denied that. Oh thank god, I have no problem with giving clubs nicknames but Vice sounds horrid.

Nah, over the last couple of years Seattle and Portland have replaced that since they have Rabid Fanbases. Chivas USA was so poorly mismanaged that they were just sold back to the MLS and the MLS is looking for a buyer. Seriously look up a recent game, Chivas shares LA's Stadium and they tarp over one area when LA doesn't have to.
Also I'm being serious. Both Chicago Fire and New England Revolution (They need a new fricking badge) wanted Jermaine Jones so it came down to a blind draw.....
Okay, first you make Toronto go down the Allocation draft list when they picked up Bradley as a DP when you didn't make Seattle do that when they picked up Dempsey. Now this stuff? Couldn't you just refer to that instead of this blind draw thing? What The hell.

Sky Sports are going to be carrying a couple games this year,
All-Star game, Playoffs are included I think.
There is a threat of a players' strike because the players and the league are having a disagreement over free agency right now. Which should've been added a long time ago

Great news, the players have agreed to a new 5 year CBA.
Season starts on Friday with LA Galaxy hosting Chicago Fire.
The two new clubs play on Sunday against each other, New York City FC at Orlando City SC, game is sold out and will have 60,000 attending the match

I'm pretty excited for this to begin again.. the league continues to grow. It's a shame we won't see Lamps and Stevie over there for a while though. Theres also rumours about NY City signing up Xavi as well at the end of the season, they'd have a ridiculous side.
NYC vs Orlando should be great, i have no idea who i'll be rooting for from now on that Thierry has left.

Excellent, sky will be showing NYC - Orlando followed by Kansas - NY Red Bulls

Some changes to the broadcast teams,
Fox is replacing NBC, before you freak out. Gus Johnson is not going to become the new voice of soccer.
John Stone, who did NBC's MLS PBP will be the PBP guy for Fox. Great American Voice, was excellent last year. Especially during the Portland/Seattle derby games
Also Alexi Lalas has moved over to Fox as well. he was the ESPN pundit who's a ginger.
Red Bulls also lost Cahill this offseason.

OCSC and NYCFC is about to start.
Unfortunately my cable provider doesn't want me watching the game since it says that it's lost the signal to ESPN2

The season just started so IDK.
The first game was decent from what I saw...how was the Sky Sports coverage? I noticed they used a different scorebox bug than the US broadcast. The US version had a little thing indicating how many subs a side had.
The Sounders/Revs game is on after SKC/RB game. It's been a good game so far.

Coverage was pretty much routine.. they didnt have a studio or anything it was just the commentators talking. We had Alan Curbishley as a co commentator though who has got to be the most boring man on this earth.

Oh god, that sounds awful.
I didn't know that Volkswagon's sponsorship deal was up. But Audi's GOOOOOL campaign is pretty clever. Supposedly the biggest sponsorship deal in MLS' history.
The last game for the first round is happening right now. Seattle is up 2 (Dempsey PK 25', Martins 41')-0 to the Revs, Last season's MLS Cup final losers.
Donovan is now an analyst too by the way for Fox Sports 1 overhere. He did make an appearance on the Spanish broadcast for the Friday game and did a interview completely in spanish.
Don Garber announced that there's going to be more expansion news coming in the next 45-60 days on the US NYCFC-OCSC broadcast.

US numbers for NYCFC and OCSC match, 539,000.
Better than usual numbers for the regular season.
The game on Univision Deportes on Friday had 371,000, alot of them to be non-Hispanics and includes the English Simulcast.

Jesus is that it? For a huge country with a growing sport i would have expected it to be so much higher than that. Our FA cup game last night had 8.9 million people watching.

It got more than FA cup coverage here.
I think MLS has this stigma of not being high caliber attached to it. The consistent start times should help though with national games. (Each club has a local deal with local channels)

CONCACAF Champ League Final 1st Leg is happening right now,
Montreal Impact is facing Mexico's Club America
The game is in Mexico's famous Azteca Stadium. Current scoreline is 1-0 Montreal. Stunning

Montreal is playing the 2nd leg of the CONCACAF CHamps league final.
They scored in the 8th minute, 1-0 and 2-1 on aggregate. If the score holds, Montreal will be the first MLS club in the current Club World Cup format.

Well done to both teams for putting on a show while we've got Newcastle and Aston Villa pretending to be Premiership sides.

Man the referees are incompetent this season.
A good example would be the Orlando City-NE Revs game, now I'll give the referee the benefit of the doubt because he was far enough away to not see the handball on the OC goal but to then call a phantom handball on the otherside and giving the Revs a PK shot was a bit odd in my opinion.
There's been a couple non reds that should've been sent out too, one against Nigel de Jong for taking out Darlington Nagbe. He did get a yellow and later a 3 game ban by the Disciplinary committee.
somewhat happy with Seattle right now, slow start as we lost the first 3 games but Seattle's undefeated in 3 games
