View Full Version : Crap comedians...

Couldn't find a thread for this, so this'll have to do...
Obviously plenty of hate going about for all the Russells, but I made this because of Josh Widdicombe and Sean Walsh. Aside from basically being the same person, their voices are ****ing grating, and my arse produces funnier material.
..I can't think of any comedian that makes me laugh atm..they're all just really samey...

I like Stewart Francis, they're usually good jokes to be fair... Milton on the other hand just relies upon looking and acting aloof to be funny.
Patrick Kielty is also chemically unfunny. And Lee Evans has to be the worst ratio of huge fame to total un-funniness of all time.

Josh Widdicombe is great and The Last Leg is underrated and under-watched and you all will bow kthx
I really don't get what's funny about Miranda but aside from that I really don't hate any comedians or find them totally unfunny, there's always some jokes that will raise a laugh even if for the majority they don't.

An important aspect of comedy is being taken by surprise, not knowing what's coming. Therefore, most comedians sort of peak after a couple of years - when theyve hit their comfort zone on stage but still have surprising and fresh material.
Russell Brand was hilarious in his first couple of live DVDs but lately he's a bit predictable - although I still like his more serious side, he has a lot of astute political insight.
Frankie Boyle was great on Mock The Week too, but started recycling jokes in his live shows which got lame, fast. although, I did read his most recent book and it was decently funny, and again with a lot of political insight. Plus there was a fictional chapter about him being contacted by the police, because a sex offender is targetting washed-up comedians and they fear he might be the next target. there's a whole deadly serious paragraph where theyre telling him that Dom Jolly has been molested... Totally cracked me up, heh.
Have to say I completely agree about Lee Evans though. How is he famous?? why is he making any money?? How can anyone not want a giant newspaper to just come down and swat him like a fly?

All ginger ones. Oh wait... are there any funny ginger people?
I quite like to laugh at Carrot Top if that counts?
I cannot abide by Michael Macintyre, not even remotely funny. I think the only comedians I actually like are Rob Delaney, Megan Amram, Lauren Caltigirone, Sarah Millican, Billy Connolly, Katherine Ryan, Kris Jefferies... mostly comedians that don't feature on British television, because they tend to be crap on TV and I think when you think a comedian is crap, you'll never change your mind.

Only seen Rich Hall on QI, I like his dead pan type humour, and he is also so knowledgeable on quite a few subjects when on that show. I like QI, and can even abide most comedians on that show who usually annoy me so much when on other shows. Although that so called comedian who does the PG Tips adverts really aggravates me whatever show he is on.

26-03-2014, 04:44 AM
great thread I concur there are loads of crap mostly middle class overly educated comics who arent naturally funny. ....i dont laugh at michael macintyre nor jack whitehall, at all....theres a few exceptions like dylan moran makes me laugh a bit, rob brydon can be funny, steve coogan obviously though i find his performances funnier than coogan just giving an interview, rod gilbert I quite enjoy....johnny vegas can be funny ....ricky gervais awful stand up, who else in the UK? andi osho is on a lot, hes probably one of the better female comics and shes very sexy.......izzard is ok but way over rated...the older comics like jasper carrott, dave allen, billy connolly, even tom oconner were infinitely better..why? well because they were working class and real. I truly believe that
will self dont like, etc
I think american comedians and writers and comedy actors are way way ahead of what we have to offer.......from pryor to bill hicks to robin williams to louis ck to dave chappelle,,,,,,,,,,to chris rock to seinfeld to eddie murphy back in the day
in movies they have endless brilliant comedy actors and writers from owen wilson to will ferrell, to ben stiller, steve martin, vince vaughan, steve correll, jack black, tina fey, amy poehler, amy adams, drew barrymore, adam sandler, or older school ted danson, henry winkler, woody harrelson, etc even serious heavyweight actors like nolte, deniro , mcconaughey, pacino, nickolson can all be hilarious
british comedy and movies have long been too snobbish and elitist imo....even the so called grim up north films arent realistic they lack humour because theyre made by posh boys who dont really understand the people they make movies about
we had a great era of comedy tv shows, with legends like warren mitchell, harry corbett, wilfred brambell, ronnie barker, john cleese, david jason, mochael crawford...but that eras long gone and weve gone backwards, we dont invest in this talent and in writers anymore , we dont take risks like the goon show either
british comedy is the most over rated thing on the planet. even python were over rated
bring back more working class comics , with original ideas,,,who relate to the common man and woman

he isnt
..I used to find Vic and Bob funny, Bob especially ..their humour was so 'random' but I think that the randomness of it then started to become predictable so they just weren't funny anymore because they didn't change their 'act' enough, maybe...
This was way before my time but I thought the absolute pinnacle of comedy was always Morecambe and Wise and I see a bit of Eric morecambe in Vic Reeves. That might be why I like him but I used to love shooting stars.

Comedy is subjective, like music... like everything. What one person finds funny another person may not. You can only say what's funny to you; you can't say something "wasn't funny" or that a comedian is "crap" just because you didn't laugh. Unless you're some kind of megalomaniac.

There's all the obvious ones but then ...
I've had poos funnier than Stewart Lee. I have no doubt he is an erudite, talented writer with his index finger up the culture clunge but a slew of his stand up material comes off as dry run for a 90 minute mental masturbation that never quite climaxes. A bit like my life admittedly only I'm not putting a charge on the door.
He's got this mundane sort of post everything, supreme hate type schtick that would get thumbed up under a Guardian article but on T.V. most of it is just lost on me. The humor. Not the routine. He breeds that type of fans - some not all - who will insist if you don't like him you just don't get it. As if they were behold to some comedy meta tribe. Consumers of better constructed belly laughs than - woe - the denizens of the comedy panel shows he failed to get booked on for years not because audiences didn't get his jokes but because they did and they were just a bit **** really.
Ironic too that so much of his material relies so heavily on the stuff he is ripping on in the first place. Which is normal for comedy yeah but somewhat dangerous if what you are relying on is itself what you're trying to sell back as less refined comedy. Russell Brand's book is crap HAHAHA.
Del Boy fell through the bar.
Then Trigger made a face.
Then Stewart Lee dragged in out for twenty minutes.

i hate cocky comedians like russell brand who thinks he's a rock star.
I'm convinced most comedians imagine themselves to be rock stars in their heads. I find those types obnoxious. It's like they are doing a poor imitation of the popular boys they were jealous of in high school. they were humiliated losers in high school, so they sat in their room, and wrote out clever things to say if they had the balls to say them. and then they get to go on stage and just recite the clever things it took them 2 years to write, but present it as if they are just speaking from their head, even though every show they say the same thing word for word. it's a memorized act. they aren't clever or fun in real life at all though, when you meet most comedians in real life, they are the same losers they were in high school when they don't have a script memorized.

In an era when people choose to take offence at anything and everything, most comedian's are flawed.

Seann Walsh definitely, so unfunny. I've never laughed at an Eddie Izzard "joke" either.

Tim Minchin is uh-mazing (not to mention a ridiculously talented pianist) and if you want a witty, intelligent criticism of religion in the form of song he's the man to turn to.
Not only that, but he's actually capable of some heartfelt stuff too:

..yeah I would agree with that, it was Jesus that got me into him/the member Jesus, not the son of God...watching Tim Minchin always makes me think of him/I miss him loads...

..I did hear quite recently that he's doing good though/all is going great for him, so that's the most important thing, I think...
