Demand to look like their Prophet .

["Pupils and parents are made aware
of the rules on appearance and uniform
before they start attending the school,
know that they apply to everyone and
are regularly reminded of this."
Last week, Mr Bowers told the
Lancashire Telegraph that the
decision to place the boys in
isolation had not been taken lightly. ]

I heard about this the other day and I couldn't believe it, it's one thing to dictate what a student can and cannot wear, but to decide what they can and cannot do with their own ****ing face? How ridiculous.

It's also the right of any human being above the age of like what...three? To decide what they want to do with their own ****ing face. If they'd come in with a cock carved into their stubble then they might have a point but otherwise I'm afraid this is far too authoritarian for my liking

It's always school rules that students are clean shaven, it's not discrimination jesus had a beard... nobody wants to look like him!

And it's not a rule I happen to agree with. Dictating what students wear is one thing, telling them how their face must look is another.

Muslims and Christians both have prophets with beards was my point.

So 14 year old boys want to grow beards to look like their prophet ? Now I've heard everything.
First of all 14 year old boys cannot grow proper beards at best they would look ridiculous , also the school rules ask for clean shaven boys to avoid unsightly "bum fluff"
If they want to grow beards that much then I suggest they move to Afghanistan where there desires to have beards would probably be upheld...!!!

It's not to look like their prophet, it's because the prophet advised it. Some 14yr olds are more than capable of growing beards. I wasn't - I was only capable of growing a patchy, council estate beard at that age.
It doesn't really matter what their reason - they are not turning up to school in gang colours, with weapons, or any other thing that would be reasonable to object to, but growing a beard for religious reasons should be fine.
Also, if a male of any religion wants to grow a beard and still attend school, it should never be allowed for the school to dictate that they can't. It's a school - a supposed establishment for learning, not a fashion house.
Vicky.

I don't understand why schools have rules on body hair, I really don't.
This is as ridiculous as the guy who got excluded for shaving his head.
I can sort of understand why they have rules about having brightly dyed hair and that, but even then I really dont see why a hairstyle has any affect on your learning.
Kizzy
10-10-2013, 10:10 AM
I guess it's down to uniformity, they want all students to look alike as much as possible?
It was advised by their prophet as a sign of maturity and wisdom, just because you can grow a beard doesn't mean you should or you are in any way mature or wise.
Vicky.
10-10-2013, 10:24 AM
I honestly expect to see a school next month kicking off because one of their pupils hasnt shaved their armpits or legs tbh. Thats how stupid its getting.
Kizzy

It's not a new thing, and maybe it just comes down to them being easily identifiable?
Vicky.
10-10-2013, 10:47 AM
I don't care how new it is, its stupid.
Other people shouldn't be able to dictate your facial hair tbh. I cant think of a job where they would do that (unless you had a santa style gigantic bush on your chin perhaps)

I hate facial hair fullstop, so I dont even see why I am arguing with this. But I don't think schools should be able to dictate to you exactly how you should look

They have to take a % of other faiths, it could have been a draw due to the fact they do very little sex ed?

The religious element of this story is irrelevant IMO, that's not my issue here because it's a matter of principle. Dictating a dress code is one thing, telling students their face (and to a lesser extent hair) must look a certain way is another. They go to school to be educated, how is some stubble going to prevent that?

AAaaaarrgghh.........Perhaps this is why so many of them insist on covering their faces.......it can be quite a task for a girl to shave off every bit of that beard and moustache.......
Now things look a little clearer.....

Are girls allowed to wear make up now in schools? Serious question? When I was in school you were frog marched to wash off every last scrap of make up if you were wearing it and so in that case I can kind of get it...if this is not about the religious side of things and they allow boys to have facial hair surely they have to allow make up on girls too?
Jesus.

The day girls grow make up out of their facial follicles is the day make up should be regarded the same as facial hair. Did the teachers frog march you to shave every hair below the neckline? Maybe that was just my PE teacher. My memory is a little hazy.

Our school randomly one day decided they wouldnt allow makeup anymore, even though literally noone went overboard anyway, a bit eyeliner or eyeshadow sometimes but that was about it. So the next day a load of us went in in full goth paint. White faces, eyeliner everywhere, black lipstick, the works. Refused to take it off. And the school caved. Was a stupid rule. Makeup has nowt to do with how we learn :hmph:

I'm pretty sure it was disproven years ago that student appearance has any impact AT ALL on the academic performance of a school. I understand the point of a uniform: relatively inexpensive clothes that stop kids feeling like they have to "compete" to have the latest fashions (usually stupidly over-priced) which can lead to massive financial burdens on parents or alternatively bullying of kids who cant afford the "latest gear". A uniform makes sense, for that reason. Hair, including facial hair, has no such implication. It's a rule for the sake of rules.
And if its because the CATHOLIC school thinks they look neater / better clean shaven and in Uniform, that it reflects badly on the school to allow otherwise... Well, fine Christians, that is called Vanity, and it's a deadly sin. Then again shoe me a religion that isn't plagued by hordes of bloody-minded hypocrites and I'll show you my beautiful flying piggy.

At my school we were allowed to wear our hair(and facial hair) however we wanted. Never caused any problems.
but I was sent home from school for wearing eye make-up when i was a teenager. I was going through a bit of a goth phase(short lived thankfully). They said it was a distraction, and that i'm there to learn, not put on a fashion show. It's definitaly unfair that the girls were allowed to wear make-up but not the boys.
It was pretty frustrating and emabrassing, but whatever, i got over it. I was just doing it for attention anyway, they are probably just doing it for attention and trying to piss off the school.
One rule for everyone, no exceptions. it's the only fair way.
On a side note, I think teenagers with beards are creepy looking. They are always really thin and patchy looking. I don't like it.
Jesus.

That is the poorest attempt to shoehorn Jesus into a post that I think I've ever seen. Good use of smiley though. Please don't bring me into threads that have nothing to do with the topic.
