Lily Allen has apparently covered Keane's 2004 single 'Somewhere Only We Know' for John Lewis' Christmas TV advert.
Music Week reports that the department store has enlisted the singer for their commercial and that though a version of the Keane track has been recorded, "other alternatives have been considered." Listen to the original version of the Keane song by scrolling down - this version of the track will feature on 'The Best of Keane', which is set for release on November 11.
John Lewis' yearly festive advert has previously featured female vocalists covering classic tracks, with Ellie Goulding taking on Elton John's 'Your Song', Amelia Warner doing the same for The Smiths' 'Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want' and Gabrielle Aplin recording Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Power Of Love'. All of the tracks charted highly following their inclusion on the seasonal adverts.
Music Week reports that both PJ Harvey and Annie Lennox were also approached and considered by the brand to provide the music for their new ad, which will premiere later this month or at the start of November.

I will reserve judgement until I hear it. All J Lewis ads are women with wispful voices over piano led songs. Sounds ok actually.

Keane  (only because they are local and I know their parents) but it is quite a good song though

It can't be any more dreary and lifeless as that bint from last year covering one of the greatest Christmas songs of all time.

Boots had the best avert last season.
Hopes & Fears is a great album, they never managed to match that
Nothing In My Way, a Fifa 06 classic.

I think it's their best album but isn't it incredible that all 5 of their albums have gone to #1 in the UK charts? I don't get why people hate them so much, I think they're brilliant.

This, although Under the Iron Sea had some solid singles, IMO. Crystal Ball is a great one.

Yeah that's surprising, I thought they dropped off the radar a bit after their second album

i probably wouldn't like it if it were some new unknown girl  also the advert being cute as hell helps
but generally I just like it 'cos I haven't heard the original in so long and it's a very good song. Just write off Keane because most of what they do is boring. This, Bedshaped and Is It Any Wonder though

Wasn't she giving it allllll up to be a housewife a mother? Didn't she bang on about that fact over and over and bloody over... and now here she is again, what feels like only minutes later.
Don't keep raising my hopes then dashing them, Lily.
I like the advert but both the song and lily Allen bore me to tears.

Me too, Lee... love the advert, don't even mind the song, but Lily Allen has a face I'd never get tired of slapping.

I like keane singing the song, but her version is probably the dreariest thing I've ever heard! :)
And yes, her face is extremely slappable
