I do my bit. One of my neighbours has loads of uncollected newspapers and bottles of milk outside her front door, so I went and cleared them all up the other day to make the place look a bit tidier.

I help my nan, but she's really independent (or shall I say stubborn) and likes to do things herself

Not as such but my mum helps run a monthly club for old people, like where they can meet up and have a meal/play games/do stuff together/go on outings, they get like at least 40 there each month, so I help them prepare that if I'm around on that day

I used to take some homemade soup or stews and stuff to my next door neighbour during the winter and we would buy extra grit and then my OH would go round and clear her paths.

Since we moved though there's not really any elderly people near us.

Apparently in China parents can sue their children for not looking after them in their old age, I promised my sons I would do this.

I mow an old ladies lawn in the village once a week when I'm home, though I'm not sure it counts as that charitable because it only takes me 45 minutes and she always pays me £20

I don't do that much really for anyone elderly,I would if I knew the need was there.
However there is an elderly lady for one who uses the same store I do and I always help her back with her shopping when I see her there too.

We often have a good long chat and I find it is company they like more than anything else.
I love hearing about their lives and experiences anyway so I likely get more from any association than they do.
I come from a close family so know family and company are very important and what it can mean to know someone is there if you need them.

20 pounds an hour? that's good work if you can get it.

Sure is, mind you I do have some rather significant overhead costs such as lawnmower fuel

only if you pay for the fuel costs, if so MTVN will be right over. give him some time to sharpen the blades though.
