X FACTOR favourite Tamera Foster has issued a grovelling apology after it emerged she was caught shoplifting.

The 16-year-old singer was held by security guards for stealing make-up from a branch of Boots a month after her first audition.

An insider confirmed Tamera told producers: “I am so, so sorry.”

The source added: “She is really remorseful for what she has done and has said sorry to everyone on the show for letting them down. She is distraught.”

Tamera was caught thieving along with two other girls at the store in Gravesend, Kent, on July 24.

Kent Police said Boots decided to deal with Tamera through “restorative justice”.

It means a manager would have been given a chance to ask why the theft had occurred, call for an apology and seek amends rather than press charges.

Sources confirmed Tamera had agreed to pay the cost of the goods stolen.

It comes as an unfortunately-timed video tutorial of how show artists do Tamara’s make-up was released online.

The teenager is 9-4 to win and blew the judges away with a rendition of Chaka Khan’s Ain’t Nobody last week.

Sharon Osbourne said: “You are very exotic, your name is exotic and you sing pretty good too.”

Tamera was also exposed for tweeting about smoking marijuana laced with class-A drug PCP.

She said last month: “I’m upset and ashamed. I never meant to encourage or endorse the use of drugs. It’s no excuse, but this was months ago.”

Tamera also accepted a police caution for attacking 15-year-old Holly Wilks after smoking marijuana on Boxing Day.

She recently insisted she has changed her ways.

She said: “I’ve done a lot of growing up and I still have time to grow. I don’t want to be judged on my past – it’s what I’m doing now that really matters.”

An X Factor source said: “She has really improved since she has been in the
X Factor house.

“She is a really pleasant young lady. We believe she’s turned over a new leaf.”

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed officers attended the theft, adding: “The store dealt with the offences through restorative justice.”

She isn't the only person to have ever shoplifted and she won't be the last either, it's not something that should be held against your name forever because if anything that just leads to more detrimental consequences. You have completely misunderstood my logic, I could maybe understand her doing it if she was a bored kid with nothing to look forward to, doing it for kicks, but she had just been chosen to go to Boot Camp it must have entered her head that it might hinder her progress on the show if she was caught, so on that basis she is a total dimwit to even consider it never mind do it.

I think a lot of teens have shop lifted silly things like sweets and make up - I'd be more concerned about her kicking and punching a girl in a train station. That's the first I heard that the person was racist. But even if that is true, do you really believe that the way to tackle racism is through beating the person up? Seriously? :conf:

You'll be surprised what a beating can do to someone. I think the girl will think twice about shouting her racist mouth off, so in this case, yes I agree with it.

I judge Tamera on her talent, not what gets reported in the papers who, let's face it, will write what they like which is mostly negative.

Oh right. So all the bollocks about changing and such was just that..

Edit. I also don't believe the racist thing at all. Or it would have came out earlier. And would have actually came from Tamera. She said it was drugs messing her up, and that if she ever saw her victim she would apologize. No way would you apologize to a racist bastard tbh

Mick Jagger - Arrested for assault.
Lil Kim - Arrested for possessing marijuana.
Eminem - Charged with assault and having a concealed weapon.
Paul Mccartney - Arrested in Japan with 8oz of marijuana in his suitcase.
James Brown - Did 3 years for theft when he was a teenager.
John Lennon - Possession of marijuana.
Steven Tyler - Possession of marijuana.
Whitney Houston - Possession of marijuana.
George Michael, 50 Cent, Tupak, the list goes on..

Of course, the moralising, hand-wringing brigade never bought any of these artists records or judged them in any way. Oh no.

..seriously, it's the first time I've read this thread..there were some 'Boots' comments in the show's thread last night and I didn't understand them, but now I do...anyway, I don't condone what she's done but it has no bearing on her..(what I feel is extremely good..) talent ...for me, whatever her 'problems' may have been and for what she's done, then it makes me in a way more supportive of her in the show because it will change her life so much...

people say this is a thing she did in the past, but it was only a few months ago surely? I think it takes a hell of a long time for people to mature from things such as stealing/drug taking etc.

how old is this girl? Still a teenager right? Just because she's on a life changing TV show doesn't mean that she's grown up now.

she may not be a bad person in the future, but (this is just my opinion) it makes her a bad person now.

I think stealing shows absolutely no signs of respect. And she's also beaten someone up, right? Clearly, again, there is something wrong there. And she may have been 'racist' but I doubt that very much. She was probably just trying to save her skin there.

I don't mean any offence to you here. I just don't think they should be, in a sense, glorifying the fact that she stole, no matter what it was. they are allowing her to stay on a show and act like she's amazing. I just think it's wrong.

i just don't think there is any way to tell whether she would do it or not. If anything, the only thing we can gather from her stealing is that she can't be trusted. I wouldn't risk leaving her with an old lady who has left her bag open, or in a shop with hardly any security.

..that's a valid point about being trusted ..I think that if you're arrested/convicted/cautioned etc with something that betrays trust then it does effect certain areas of your life which that would be part of...but being an XFactor contestant or success wouldn't apply....I do understand and respect how you feel but it's so difficult to achieve what she has the talent for 'on your own', which is one of the great things about XFactor....

It just annoys me how I've seen comments of people saying she's a 'legend' or saying it's not a big deal, because to me it is. It's an awful thing to do and it's just plain wrong. I agree with Verbal. she should be seen as a thief and nothing more.

But you do realise that labelling someone as a criminal and wanting to hold it against their name for the rest of their life actually has more detrimental consequences than if you let them face the punishment for what they did and then let them start with a clean slate? What you're suggesting would mean she's chastised for the rest of her life, struggles to find a job and would inevitably return to shoplifting to fend for herself. If you don't give criminals a fresh start once they've served their punishment, and wish to label them forever, they will end up returning to a life of crime since that's the only thing they're ever going to be seen as.

The US are very strict in drugs, it was indeed probably a minor drugs offense (possession of class B [cannabis] most likely), which is hardly crime of the century, who hasn't smoked a little weed in their youth? But anyway... The answer is, if they win, they will be "celebrities" and so the US will almost certainly grant him a Visa as an exception. Celebrities are "special", didn't you know, and don't have to follow the same rules as us mere mortals. Lots of celebs have records with assaults and minor drugs charges and yet magically seem to be immune from Visa restrictions.
