Rihanna is believed to have been asked to leave a mosque after posing for photos deemed at odds with the "status and sanctity" of the place of worship.

The 'Diamonds' singer uploaded pictures on Instagram over the weekend of her dressed in a hijab at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

However, the mosque has since released a statement confirming that a female singer was sent away for "behaviour that violates the moral codes of access", including entering a section off-limits to visitors.

"The Centre strives to ensure that visitors enter the mosque in a decent fashion, and refrain from behaving in any way that is inconsistent with the sanctity of this religious place," the statement read.

Listing the "taking [of] inappropriate pictures, posing in ways that are improper in the context of sacred place, talking loudly, or eating" as violations, the mosque continued: "Here, the Centre refers to a recent incident, involving a singer who came for a private visit to the mosque, at a gate that is not reserved for visitors, without prior co-ordination with the Centre's management and without identifying herself.

She was directed by visitor services to proceed to the visitors' main gate and take the guided tour, according to procedure.

"She left without entering the mosque, after being asked to do so, due to the fact that she had taken some pictures that do not conform with the conditions and regulations put in place by the Centre's management to regulate visits in a way that takes the status and sanctity of the mosque into consideration."

Rihanna performed in Abu Dhabi on Friday (October 19) as part of her 'Diamonds World Tour'. She will next perform in Tel Aviv, Israel tomorrow (October 22)

Rihanna has signed to Jay Z's record label Roc Nation.

The singer has left her first label Def Jam, to which she signed in 2005. All seven of her albums have been released on the label.

Jay Z was President of Def Jam at the time, and influential in the signing of Rihanna to the label.

Jay Z left his role as President of Def Jam in 2009 for Roc Nation, his own label formed as part of his multi-million-dollar contract with Live Nation.

Rihanna signed with Roc Nation's management team in 2009 after parting from former manager Marc Jordan.

Rihanna's artist profile on Roc Nation has been updated to specify that she is signed to the label and not just managed by them. The Def Jam website now features Rihanna in its "Legacy" section.

In signing to Roc Nation, Rihanna joins the likes of Calvin Harris, Alexa Goddard, J Cole and Jay Z himself.

I think she's probably beyond the stage of needing to release singles constantly to keep the momentum going. She's the best established artist in the world now. She can afford to only release a couple of singles and drop a quality album now and take her time on it, I think it'd be good for her and the general quality of her output.
