Anyone have any idea what I could use as an alternative to florist foam, like this..

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Case-20-Oasis-Wet-Floral-Foam-Block-Fresh-Flower-Bricks-/00/s/OTYxWDEyMzk=/z/~zgAAOxyoA1RSbIR/$T2eC16JHJI!E9qSO8E!9BRSbIQrfeg~~60_12.JPG

I need A LOT of it and it's pretty expensive really just for chunks of foam, I thought about polystyrene but nah that's not 'heavy' enough..

So any suggestions?

Edit: Forgot to add I wont actually be using it for flowers so the water thing doesn't matter...

Have you looked on Amazon?

Currently doing 20 bricks for 14 quid instead of 22?

Also save-on-crafts.com seems reasonable, depends how cheap you need it to be?

Looked on both amazon and ebay, I wouldn't be fussed about that price if I didn't need 100+ blocks.

Thanks though Kate I will have a look on save-on-crafts.com.

At this rate I think I'm going to have to make do with polystyrene.

The "wet" one is slightly cheaper, but not much.

Kazanne :joker: I was joking about building a foam house, it's for making candy bouquet centre pieces, I had thought about play dough but then I thought that might make the skewers all dirty/sticky.

So I'm just going to buy the floral foam and cut them in half length ways to save some money.

Thanks Cuda I saw the boxes of it on Home Bargains website.

That's the ones i'm going to use, don't think there is much difference between them for what I'm using it for anyway.

I was thinking about it Ammi but it's not really sturdy enough for holding all the skewers.

of course you can put a skewer in playdough/potato, have you never had cheese and pineapple on sticks that are planted into a potato covered in cling film

Not stuck into a potato, stuck into a melon or half a pineapple yes but no never a potato, that's not very nice appearance wise is it.

The playdough I'm too afraid of it making the skewers all yucky.

playdough would only make the skewers a bit colourful, wouldn't be sticky

Yeah it might do I will have to test it first though I'm still thinking it's not strong/supportive enough because the entire thing is going to be top heavy.

The inventor has a stranglehold on the market, until the Patent runs out it is not going to be cheaper.
