Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is to be axed after Chris Tarrant said he wanted to step down as host.

Tarrant said it was 'time to move on' from the TV quiz, having been with the show since its inception.

ITV has said there will be no further specials beyond the ones which have already been planned.

Announcing his departure in a statement, the 67-year-old said: "It's been a huge part of my life for fifteen years and I've loved every minute of it, but it is time for me to move on from Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

"It's been the most remarkable journey and I consider myself very fortunate to have been associated with Millionaire from its inception.

"ITV have been fantastic in their support from day one and to see its huge success has been thrilling."

Didn't realise it was still on, last time I remember seeing it they had made those stupid changes to the money structure

Yeah they haven't had normal contestants on for about 3 years. And those ridiculous mother's day specials are pointless since they're a one off, and there are three sets of players to get through, so noone even gets the chance to play for a million...

I sometimes watch 'Millionaire' repeats on Challenge. Not sure the against-the-clock format improved it.

Wasn't aware it had been on since about 2007 tbh

And yeah, changing the format ruined it.

Lost its shine for me when I realised it wasnt live. So if someone won you would know about it before the show started. Same with Deal or no Deal, although that is still a good watch.

Chris Tarrant back on Millionaires topic ;-)

I was worried about the mini-stroke Chris had some months
ago but it looks like he recovered pretty fast. Happy to hear that.
Not sure yet if he'll be back on tv.
After writing Dad's War he seems he got into giving out millions again
and became a testimonial of an online brand offering lotteries over the
internet https://www.lottoland.co.uk/magazine/chris-tarrant-becomes-the-new-face-of-lottoland.html
