A lovely jingly, optimistic sounding Scottish post punk band. Rip It Up is pretty much the quintessential post punk song. It's such a fantastic tune. There is an awesome book chronicling the history and recording of Post Punk and the characters behind it also called Rip It Up, by Simon Reynolds. Well worth checking out if good music books are your thing.

Most of the music you appreciate today has taken some influence from 80's New Wave!

Have some respect for your musical ancestors Salman!

Show me, show me, show me, how you do that trick.
The one that makes me scream she says
The one that makes me laugh she says
Threw her arms around my neck

And if they don't believe me now, will they ever believe me?

Naw Kizzy

I'm guessing the wall is about pink Floyd but what are the others about?

The great rock and roll swindle is the story of the Sex pistols, and Breaking glass is Hazel Oconnors.

Atmosphere is my all time favorite song [along with Home by Depeche and Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead], and one of the few that genuinely scares the **** out of me.

Also they kind of grew far beyond post punk but of course New Order are the business as well. True Faith, Regret, Age Of Consent, Temptation ...

I like new order but one thing that puts me off is their songs are either fantastic or a bag of sh*t and cos I always like to buy full albums I can never justify getting one.

I got a box set of pretty much everything Joy Division recorded off amazon for like 17 quid. 4 discs and a chunky booklet that I can't be assed to read :joker:

The latter half of New Order's discography is poor to be fair. I had Republic on in the background the other day and beyond Regret it was mostly awful.

Peter Hook is clearly a knob as well. I met him and I was waiting for him to start asking me to part with my money to hear some old road stories of Ian Curtis going mental.

Seeing them live again in two weeks up in Dublin. They really have the most amazing back catalogue. Every album from Black Celebration on has been full of great tracks from start to finish and has a distinct sound.

I can definitely see how they would work for people as a greatest hits band - just like I can with The Cure - but it's a shame so many people only know Personal Jesus, ETS etc.

Did you ever hear that hand that rocks the cradle song? Someone told me it was about touching kids so I always skip that now when I listen to the first album!

I was only born in 89 so the main way I find all these bands is through iTunes

Not come across these yet but they sound good.

I've heard it only once, just listened to it again now and it could mean that but I'm not sure. I always find this (http://songmeanings.com/songs/view/51219/) site interesting. I have to skip suffer little children song sometimes, although it's good

The band that's currently getting my attention is Talking Heads. I only knew them from psycho Killer and Once in a Lifetime.

I bought two of their CDs off amazon this week, a live one and the album that starts with burning down the house.
