As a very incompetent computer user I am always a little late in learning how to do things. Yesterday I was trying to find/use the site that some of you use to get animated graphics.I clicked onto various pictures and got a couple of URLS and went where they took me.There was nothing to look at just lists of info,then suddenly a window opened on my computer telling me it had been 'tracked and identified' and would be investigated !It then opened another window suggesting I had all sorts of unmentionable /illegal things to hide. It gave me quite a shock as I am a very squeeky clean Grandma ! Every time I tried to close the window it popped up again. In the end I unplugged. I opened up again 10 minutes later and nothing happened.

Has any thing like this happened to anyone else ?Please let me know.
BTW I still don't know how to get animated graphics - what a surprise !!!!LOL:shocked::conf::shocked:

As a totally non-technical person myself, Boris, I'm not sure whether I should even attempt to try and help!!

I do think, though, that what you saw was just one of those annoying "pop-up" windows which you should just close immediately or ignore and close later when you've come out of the site.

A really good site for smilies is http://www.plauder-smilies.com/

It's also really easy to use. Click on the smiley you want and when its URL appears highlighted below, copy it using the right mouse button and paste it in the same way into your TiBB post.

Once you've become an expert, you can have a go at some of the other "smiley" sites. There's quite a few but the plauder one is definitely the easiest to use, IMHO.

BTW, I usually have both sites open at once but keep whichever one I'm not using at the time minimalised.

I do have a good anti virus thing that my son-in-law made sure was part of the package when my system was purchased. Is it anything like that?

A fire wall is there to prevent unauthorised access too your system. If you go to This link (http://www.faqs.org/faqs/firewalls-faq/) you will get more info on firewalls in general.

There is a free version, the one I use somewhere on this site (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp) but they also have a pro one if you want to shell out.

I have been using Zone Alarm since a co-called associate surfed a porn site with out my consent, and it placed a piece of spyware on my system to steal my Credit card details.

I ended up having to speak to the fraud department when they used my card details to use an "adult" internet chat service :mad:

I changed my email address last year because of unsolicited 'invites' to porn etc. I was getting upwards of 25 a day, it was horrid.That has stopped now thank goodness. It stoped almost imediately.

A firewall is a good idea, but I also wouldn't be worried about the messages you described in your first post on here as I think they were probably a very annoying advertising ploy that I have seen before several times.

Many companies have automatic adverts that pop up when you open certain webpages, most of them are obviously adverts and do not look worrying, just annoying. There is a computer security company (can't remember which one cos their ads annoy me so much I close them without reading them properly :hugesmile: ) who use this method to pop up ads with dire looking warning messages in an effort to get you to buy their firewalls etc etc.

Firewalls are a good idea, but these ads really annoy me as they genuinely worry people like yourselves and I think are unethical.

To put your mind at rest about what Sticks said about 'spyware' stealing private information from your computer, I recommend installing a program called Ad-aware. :thumbs:

You can use it to scan your computer for spyware programs, like an anti-virus program.

It's free and really easy to use. Get it here:

Spyware is the jargon used for computer programs that can 'phone home' information about you to a third-party, although most of companies involved claim to protect your privacy and only collect general information.
