Lorde turns down David Guetta collab because "he's so gross"

Even if your musical tastes are strictly electronic, odds are by now you’ve at least heard the name Lorde. More likely, you’re already familiar with her chart-smashing single Royals, which has hit #1 in no fewer than 12 countries, including the UK Singles chart and the United States’ notoriously hard-to-crack Billboard Hot 100. In the past couple of months, she’s dropped a universally lauded debut album, hit Australia for a very-much-sold-out headline tour and broken an 18-year chart record. This, it’s worth noting, has all happened before her 17th birthday.

But there’s one thing Lorde hasn’t done: collaborated with David Guetta. In a piece on our sister site FasterLouder, Ella Yelich O’Connor – as she’s known outside of music – went deep with writer Duncan Grieve, who spent the better part of six months following her between studio sessions, label meetings and shows for the longform profile Lorde: Pop’s New Ruler. So he knows, then, just how she felt about the news that perennial chart-troubler David Guetta wants her on his next album. Ella’s response? “No. **** no. He’s so gross.”

That’s not to say Lorde isn’t open to working with big dance names. Diplo’s her “dream producer” (and she’s got a standing invitation to a writing camp for the next Major Lazer album) and she “loves” Future Classic wunderkind Flume, whom she was asked to open for in the US just before Royals exploded. “I can’t tell if it’s cool or not,” she said of the offer. “’Cause it’ll just be heaps of kids on pills.” The joint tour never happened, but if Twitter’s to be believed, the pair are planning on hitting the studio together to make some “bangerzzz” soon.

I'd never heard of her or her song until Mutya Keisha Siobhan covered it :laugh: she shouldn't kick people on her way up because they'll kick her on her way back down, if she's not careful she'll end up like Azealia Banks - a one hit wonder and a terrible reputation for slagging off everyone in the industry so no one will want to work with her.

Not surprised as most 16 yr olds these days are arrogant pricks who think they're above everything and everyone. Having said this I have never heard of her either I just googled her.

Anyway she needs to elaborate, gross in what sense? Looking? If David guetta was a vicious man he could put her out of business as i'm sure he's got a billion connections.
