Must admit I hoarde cd's. I don't buy owt off iTunes unless I can't get the CD or it's like ultra rare and about £60

I love ripping off the plastic wrapping and slapping it in a CD player and having the physical booklet to flick through while it's on.

Download everything, only buy CDs that I really like. Usually about 10-15 of a year's releases. I have about 200 altogether atm.

If I like an album that i've downloaded enough I'll pay for it and that means getting a physical copy of it it not a legal download, but CD's are ridiculously expensive these days at most places

Yes, I like having hard copy's.

That's what it's all about for me. I love having the CD's.

Just bought the new version of Jeff Wayne's war of the Worlds and I bet it will have a nice chunky booklet for me to have a gander in.

What Nathan said.

Tends to be older releases I buy though, with decent artwork. Vinyl mostly. Not because I'm a hipster or anything but because ... well ... I have a vinyl player and I prefer the sound. I can also kinda DJ so I amuse myself by mixing stuff that shouldn't be mixed - like seeing what happens when you bang An Unforgettable Fire up against some Marco V.

It doesn't help the illegal downloading industry that for years now artists have been putting out horrible CD packages with thin inlay booklets and daft "this is me with jewelery on me and paint in the background" style homogenized album covers.

Part of the draw of vinyl in the old days is that you weren't just paying for the music, you were paying for an item of aesthetic pleasure. You had your record, the awesome smell inside the cardboard, nice big liner notes, beautiful artwork.

Now it's just a big face with 'ARTISTS NAME' in sharp font.

I still find with CDs from groups in the 80's they have decent album artwork and booklets. Talking heads and Level 42's booklets have interested me and I got a big one with the Joy division box set.

Factory Records used to put out incredibly lavish presentations even for their singles in the old days. Each Factory release was treated as a piece of high end commodity.

I remember PiL's Metal Box album that came ... in a metal box. I think they actually [I]lost money on the limited run of those things.

Those cardboard CD cases need to die though.

I hate those, they never sit right in the collection.

I can tolerate the cardboard ones with the plastic bit to house the CD like the crystal fighters one.

Shaun

I don't mind the cardboard ones, bit thinner and consume less space.

King Gizzard
06-11-2013, 08:36 PM
they get tatty and worn very easily and as SM says they never sit right in CD collections, I've got about 4 of the bastards sitting awkwardly on top
