View Full Version : Nicholas too young and innocent to sing love songs

The state of Nick's love life is nothing to do with me but the Adele song just highlighted how unsuited he is to "adult" level love songs unlike similar aged Tamera (who's had boyfriends, relationships etc).

Nick is a sweet innocent older choir boy type and admitted he's never really had a girlfriend and I will conclude "never had a girl" . His singing is too pure, too childish, and squeaky clean, he can hold a tune and never go off key, but let's be honest, the only angsty love heart break he's had is probably when his mum stopped making him egg soldiers.

He's no more suited for "Someone like you" than Bruno Mars ode to sex "Gorilla".

He sang that song on Saturday perfectly in fact he was the best performance of the night IMO.

Agree with both of these

His voice is amazing, especially for his age(did you know hes only 16?!?!?!?! :joker: ) but he seems to have no personality or anything. He was my fave until a few wees ago when I got bored of him.

I had dozed off on sat and woke up to nick singing that song. Now I loathe that song but nick has a lovely voice and I actuallu quite liked it. I think he will win xf due to the whole of Scotland being behind him and old grannies too and quite possibly 16 year olds lol

I like him. I don't think he's anything special but I'm supporting him although more through the lack of liking anybody else enough .

Nicholas has a decent but bland voice, if you heard it on the Radio you probably wouldn't even recognize that it was him that was singing the song.

I like him, but i still prefer Luke. I really like the tone of his voice.

Nicholas doesn't even act his songs out which is what his suppose to do, it comes off too mechanical.

I agree with that. He doesn't connect with me.

He can put a bit of passion into the lyric but I agree overall with what you say.
I could listen to a CD of him but I feel I would be bored at a concert by him,he has little in the way of charisma, from what we have seen so far anyway.

That's why it was bad. Angst love songs are often about pain, heartbreak or about passion, sex, lust, excitement, desire and raw uncontrollable shove you against a wall sex. And yes, sex is a major part of love but it's curiously ignored on X Factor love themes. Love songs are about expressing emotion. Something you need to experience. Nothing behind the eyes, but rather he's like a reliable wind up singing toy that can hit every note.

Nicholas, sweet guy but has all the passion of cold mouldy custard. Love songs require passion. Miley Cyrus, say what you want, she's experienced "Wrecking Ball"

Nick is a nice "boy" but I don't want little kids singing adult stuff, he's is like a 5 year old girl copying her mums make up. You to live with the blues to sing the blues. Nick has zero relavant life experience to draw upon, that much is obvious. He'd be great at singing choir songs, but love songs no f@cking way. You can tell that the others of similar ages eg Tamera, Luke and Hannah have some romantic love experiences, they may not be note perfecton but they are living the lyrics.

Yes, just like Joe McElderry, Nick can hit every note perfectly, but that's the problem, lovesongs are not about note perfecton. When Bono sings it's not perfect, his voice crackles, light and shade, despair, anger, lust, sweat, desire, hurt, passion. Nick can't do this, not wanting to be rude but let's be honest he's a virginal choir boy. Yes, if he sang Blurred lines, or Mars' Gorilla it would be note perfect, right pitch and perfectly pleasant, but pleasant is not what what love songs are about. This sounds bad, but Nick needs to ahem, live a little, and then in 2 years when some b*tch has trampled on his heart or shown him a good time come back to the microphone. It's all tol choir boy.

His voice is technically good but for a song like that... it just didn't work, it was really obvious that he didn't understand the lyrics. I doubt he's ever even had a "proper" girlfriend, let alone experienced heartbreak, and if you can't understand the meaning of a song's lyrics then you can't put any soul into it.

Case in point; Alexandra Burke's "Hallelujah". Technically, an very good vocal performance. But she didn't "get" the lyrics at all, she blatantly didn't understand what they were about AT ALL, she spent half of the video... smirking :/. It's a cynical, angry, almost sarcastic song. She sang it like a happy gospel prayer. And as a result, it was soulless drivel.

Alexandra's Hallelujah is a great example. Original was quite imo raunchy, she turned it into a clean cut gospel dirge.

I agree. He can sing - but he needs to come back when he has something to sing about. He's just a normal little Scottish lad, the biggest decision he's had to make in his life is whether to take a kitkat or oreos in his packed lunch; his biggest heartbreak when he got RRoD on boxing day.

Love the fact that despite Nicky singing an Adele song she tweeted support to Luke.

I am itching for Nick to sing something a bit racy. He's 17 and as controversial as this sounds if he doesn't do something a bit more grown up he's heading for safe, asexual Joe Mcelderry "20 Great Barry Manilow covers " just in time for Mother's Day territory. Not Blurred Lines but something on that level, surprise people. Be 17, not 12.

Nick is being set up to be the innocent choir boy. On Saturday he becomes same age as Luke and older than Tamera who both reference their love lives, and are treated as adults whereas Nick's being marketed as " never even kissed a girl". When the dancer smooched him Sharon shouted paedophile x 3, it's funny how Sharon was quiet when Luke had that " Ellie Goulding " type romantic vid when he sang. It can't be an age thing as Harry Styles supposed sex life was monitored from 16.....

Aha, Harry styles was 16 whrn he was marketed in an adult way eg cougar nonsense. Tamera is lounger than Nick. True Luke is months older but more cuter, but if Nick is seen as a boy it will harm his career when he potentially releases as album in 2014. It's gonna be mums and granny choir MOR stuff, see Joe McElderry.

Luke's way too young for me obviously but I'd fancy him if I was younger (someone from Made in Chelsea tweeted why cant he be older, true!

I would never buy Nicholas as a romantic lead. He just looks like a child. Bless him! :joker:
