Studio Ghibli's latest film and Hayao Miyazaki's last. It's pretty much guaranteed to win the Best Aimated Picture Oscar and I reckon it could even sneak a Best Picture nod. I expect only Claudia will show any interest though, because y'all are uncultured swines.

..it look beautiful...I love Japanese animated films..and I have seen a few of Miyazakis...but there are lots that I haven't seen, so I'll make a special 2014 effort to become more cultured.......

You can't go wrong with Studio Ghibli, I don't think I've ever seen a bad Ghibli film.

...I'm just watching Grave of the Fireflies atm, the relationship between the two siblings, Setsuko and Seita is extremely touching..I know the ending will be incredibly sad though..:'( ....

Oh God, that film destroys me every time.
..I found a streaming site which shows it in 3 segments, which is why I haven’t finished watching it yet..(I’ve watched the first two..)..I knew if I watched it all last night, I wouldn’t fully absorb it because I was tired, so I’ll finish watching it tonight...I don’t generally like movies/films which are shown in retrospect because obviously, you already know the ending...but with this, that just makes it more watchable somehow..maybe it’s because you know that there’ll be no Disney touches, the story is so real and believable of two young people who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances and all they really have is each other..and they both depend so much on each other ...ughhh, that scene when she was burying the fireflies and his thoughts were for his mother ..he’s no more than a child himself..he loves/needs his mother and yet he has to be the parent and be so strong...
..I know the ending is going to kill me, Dezzy...and I’m not really usually one for watching sad movies but somehow, even though I know there won’t be a ‘Hollywood Ending’...I know it will be uplifting because these Japanese movies are just so good at portraying the basic good in ordinary people...ordinary in extraordinary circumstances sort of thing....anyway, I’m sorry for derailing your thread...if you have any suggestions for my next ‘must see’, then I’d appreciate it...maybe we need a Japanese animated film thread..?....

Spirited Away
Whisper of the Heart
Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle
Castle in the Sky
The Castle of Cagliostro
Naucissa of the Valley of the Wind
All pretty good films to watch if you want to get into Studio Ghibli.
