3 Women kept as Slaves
2 People Arrested
[The inquiry was launched after one
alleged victim told a charity she
had been held against her will for
more than 30 years.
Scotland Yard said the Freedom Charity,
which advises and support victims
of forced marriages or honour-based violence,
got in touch after they received a call following
a TV documentary.
Further inquiries by police revealed
the location of the house and with
the help of sensitive negotiations
conducted by the charity,
three women were rescued.
They were a 69-year-old Malaysian woman,
a 57-year-old Irish woman and a 30-year-old Briton.]

The 30yr old, she must have been a baby then... where did she come from?
Maybe one of the other women is her mother.
Or perhaps she is their own daughter.
Terrible situation for all three.

I was listening to a report about it this morning, the 30 year old is not related to either of the other women or the couple accused of being the captors but apparently she's been living this way for all her life, so where did she come from??
Also, the reporter said it's not a slavery case in the traditional sense more modern day slavery where the victims are threatened and independence taken away and human trafficking may be involved

I doubt 2 67 year olds are either a flight or violence risk, and it's cheaper for the state to do it this way.

Maybe this story is a load of Baloney.........so many parts of it don't add up, maybe they were not slaves held captive more likely domestic staff who lived in.
Maybe they owed money to this couple and offered to work it off or perhaps they have mental health issues and the couple looked after them.
Where does the 30 yr come from ??
Sorry not buying this story.........!!!!
Niamh.

According to reports they've been investigating it since Oct 25th so the Police must have some grounds to believe it by now and choose to release details about it to the press

I'll be interested to hear how the 30yr old didn't work out she could overpower 67yr olds, or why they didn't gang up as a 3.

the 30 year old has been there since she was a child it sounds like, I doubt she thinks like a 30 year old who'd been free all their life

On newsnight last night it suggested this was a growing problem, people trafficked in for domestic servitude, not sure if this is what's happened here but the women appear to be severely traumatised, that could be due to worries about repercussions?
Nedusa

I suspect there may be certain elements of this story that fit into the slavery/trafficking scenario but I'll wager when the whole story is finally revealed there will be many inconsistancies resulting in an almost impossible criminal prosecution.
This may be in the news more to prick the public's conscience re the far bigger and more deadly situation re trafficking third world people for forced work and/or prostitution..
I think this case will be shown to struggle to fit cleanly into the slavery/trafficking model.
