Quite simple but a curious question :elephant:

Very few people with a brain would have supported Jade (and co) over Shilpa in this series.

In the context of this series, Shilpa, for being dignified. Honestly, before Jade and co rounded on her for being different, I'd have expected Shilpa to either be evicted in a vote to save and getting the fewest votes to save, or to reach the final because no one was putting her up for eviction but she'd be first one out in the final. However, because that horrible gang decided to pick on her, it obviously changed everything. It was very rewarding to see her win, I think it was the correct and best possible result after everything that had happened, it showed that despite the minority of morons out there in the UK, most people do not condone racism or bullying. I'm glad Shilpa won.

It's a non-question. One had dignity, grace, rationality and a pretty likeable, humourous personality, the other was a loud, judgmental, ignorant and bullying sack of ****.

I don't get why this is a question, especially when you voted Shilpa yourself :suspect:

The worst part of the whole thing was the people who were defending Jade trying to back it up by saying she didn't have enough understanding of Shilpa's culture and she meant no harm by it etc, she knew exactly what she meant at the time by the whole Popadom comments, awful bint.

Well, we did get the great/underrated BBCH series because of it I suppose

BBCH was so good because there was a new task everyday and each celebrity brought something different to the house, plus the housemates were just normal talented people rather then fame hungry wannabes

23-11-2013, 03:32 PM
It didn't feel like BB though

I loved BBCH. Amy, Latoya, Jay and Calista

King Gizzard

probably the reason it was so good is that it can't be considered a BB series, so you can judge it on it's own merit, and I just loved it, had some classic funny moments in it

The whole thing about getting young people that are in different professions was good too, so you knew you were going to get different personalities

I know I'm the spokesperson on here for the contribution argument, but this really is a non-question. There's no excuses for bullying.

Having said that though, I would have preferred someone else to win.

Shilpa definitely deserved to win imo in a scenario like that. and anyway it's not exactly like the others were that entertaining anyway

I also really liked John... it was obvious he was going to win after the launch night twist (which WAS, by the way, a genius idea and we probably overlook it now because Channel 5 have tried to recreate it so often), but he was a nice guy.

Dirk was awesome...Jade was vile in this show, as were her 2 horrible biatching nuddies
shilpa was nice, maybe slightly aloof, but still very nice polite and classy and of course stunningly gorgeous
the whole argument was pathetic , all over coffee beans which were in the cupboard all the time
people forget jade bullied dirk benedict too and mocked his impotence through cancer and his previous alcoholism too
dirk benedict was far more bullied than shilpa, but no one cared as he is a man and a white American man at that

If this was just based on CBB5, I would not have voted Jade. But as a housemate overall, based on BB3, Jade was much more entertaining than Shilpa.
But I'm in no way condoning her behaviour on CBB.

I don't believe any of them were racists to begin with. I think they just descended into making fun of Shilpa's origins as a cheap shot, because to begin with, if my memory serves me correctly, they were just arguing about trivial ****, it's not like Shilpa walked into the house and they immediately started calling her Shilpa Poppadom etc. As I said in my other post, I'm glad that Shilpa won, and I think, in a bizarre way, that series served as a fine example of Big Brother as a social experiment. It started out as a social experiment and it soon became a reality TV car crash, but that series of CBB, without meaning to be, became far more of a social commentary than it was an entertainment show. It showed how awful people could be but it also showed how the British public en masse do not tolerate bullies, we do not want to be known as racists and we do not want to reward losers for ignorant behaviour.

Jade's life afterwards was obviously never the same again and it wasn't long before she was diagnosed with cancer and then passed away. I think had it not been for her stint in CBB, I would have been saddened by her death because she really was one of the best ever housemates until she revealed her nasty side in CBB.

I don't believe any of them were racists to begin with.

I know they were very stupid and didn't know what they were saying but:

Danielle : I think she should **** off home
Jo and Danielle kept going on about the way they eat in India and said it was *disgusting*
Jo: [mimiking Shilpas accent] I wanted tea .... **** off with that going around my head
Jack called her either a P*** or a ******* (channel 4 said he said the latter)
Jo, Danielle and Jade made up a limerick to which the rhyming words rhymed with P*** (was not shown on channel 4 but transcript was released by Ofcom)

The list goes on . Racist? Maybe. Ignorance? YES!

A lot of it was down to ignorance and poor education. There was obviously no awareness of the repercussions of what they would say.

I think it descended into racism but to begin with they just plain didn't like her and they were using her race as a way to demean her in the same way they would if she wore glasses or had braces or was fat... it was like watching a group of bitchy fourteen year olds. As things got more heated, there's no denying it became outright racist abuse, though.

I mean, here, it's not anything to do with race or colour, it's to do with background. Jade had the perception that Shilpa thought she was better than her. In Jade's defense, Shilpa here does contradict herself and comes across as condescending, but then Jade starts to get angry and is spurred on by Danielle and Jo smirking away, leading to a full blown screaming match over... oxo cubes? No, over the fact they come from totally different walks of life. Jade just became fixated with her disdain for Shilpa; Danielle and Jo liked to egg her on because they found her passionate ranting hysterically funny.

I always had less respect for Jo and Danielle than Jade. Jack too, in fact he was the only one that actually used a racial slur (the P word). But because Jade hogged all the airtime she took the brunt of it (and to be fair she was the most aggressive and obnoxious).

But yeah, the whole HAHAHAHA SHE EATS WITH HER HANDS stuff from Danielle was way more disgusting to watch. But no, let's cheer her and get her to the final because everyone else walked or was a member of the Goody family.

I find it disgusting that Danielle more or less got away with it because she's pretty and in her exit interview said something along the lines of "oh I'm easily led, even Shilpa said so." Jo O'Meara and Jade Goody had their lives ruined. Danielle married a footballer and is still a tabloid celebrity. Yeah Jade was loud and obnoxious and because she was the first one evicted out of the bunch she took the brunt of the blame - but yeah, Jack was the worst offender and I think Jo and Danielle were spineless and refused to be accountable for their actions. At least Jade spent the rest of her life trying to make up for what she did and upon being evicted started to apologise and didn't try to defend what she said and did.

Shilpa, If im honest Jade wasnt as bad as people made her out to be. I think she was just being a bit of a bitch, but not racist. If you ask me Jo and Danielle were well worse. I think that was one of the worst points of the main argument, when Shilpa asked Jo for help and Jo just burst into laughter.

Couldn't agree more with you. I think Jo came to the point of accepting what she had done eventually, and it's very sad when you hear of the suicide attempts, but she should have held her hands up to begin with. Jade really did make an effort after, and it's only too sad that it took her to be cancer ridden to finally be forgiven... at least she died with some peace of mind, and as you said, Danielle slipped out of the spot light and wasn't really mentioned again despite being one of the worst offenders.

Watching it back it's a lot easier to see it more objectively. I don't believe Jade Goody was ever a racist. Jade and Shilpa came from very different backgrounds and walks of life and I think that was the real problem. Shilpa was certainly no angel; her saving grace and part of the reason Jade looked so awful at the time was because Shilpa, despite her flaws, never really rose to the bait and everyone watching was really taken in by the graceful way she took all the abuse. She definitely instigated her fair share of the drama though, the whole stock cube thing was Shilpa's fault - but Jade's outspoken, loud mouthed nature and her poor way of handling conflict meant that she took it too far and was being egged on by Danielle and Jo.

Jo I think was just that classic case of someone who's in the in crowd who goes along with anything just to be accepted, she too was never truly racist in my eyes. Danielle was definitely bitchy in that situation and I feel she only got out of that situation unscathed because she's a pretty girl, there's just no logic to how the blame got dished out in that situation at all.
