View Full Version : Razzies suggestion [Please don't delete]

Posting this in here as my the game thread is having a debate on something else.
With the Razzies could we not just trial it this once with an Opt-in method and have it in a private sub forum (like the pub quiz team rooms) to keep it off the forum?
Most of the drama didn't come from the actual awards itself.
I'm just throwing this out as a possible option as a lot of the forum have no problem with the awards, and it is forum tradition to have it and now it is banned.

that will only divide the forum even more! keep things out in the open or not at all.
members that go to far get banned.

Oh, I was meant to post this in the suggestions sub-forum.

I'm opting out, but if they do go ahead I'd like to see them. However, I'd rather they went ahead for the people that wanted to take part, and I don't get to see them if that's what needs to happen.
Somebody tell me the game

It's an award ceremony based on the Raspberry Awards that look at give out awards to worst sub forum, biggest fail, worst thread, worst game, most annoying member etc.
Most of us took it all in good spirits but a few members had issues with it so after 6 years has been banned to the dungeons to join Controversy.

It's a sort of anti-awards, where people are recognised for tongue-in-cheek contributions, rather than positive contributions like the other awards hosted on here. I think there were awards last time for things like "most obsessed", or "most argumentative" etc.

This is a better description than I gave, read this one.

It was actually pretty fun throughout, and just because something different is happening around the place, you get to talk to more/different people. The awards ceremony was a good night last year, but that's all I can probably say on the matter.

It's been a staple of the forum for years and shouldn't be binned because of a few people causing disruptions... opt them out and allow no discussion of said people so the Razzies can go ahead and TiBB can have another night to remember to stop this place from going even further into grim mode.

I think it's a great idea if you opt in you can see it, if you opt out, you're not involved in anything you might see as hurtful and no arguments can really come of it

There's the "spill onto the forum" aspect of it but I see that just as a reason for someone to be infracted.

Well if it's a sub forum then anyone who has opted in should be able to make threads in there, as soon as people start discussing it out of there then infractions should be handed out
Glenn.

Exactly, and have the "sub-forum" heavily moderated so no one in there starts slandering those who have opted out.

aye i love that idea
If it doesn't happen on the forum, it'll happen somewhere else and the moaners will moan even more, so the private sub forum makes sense to me.. However, I can't see it happening :(

all things should be open i dont believe in private sections if others are being talked about.
keep all things in the open i say. why anyone would argue over these things is beyond me but nothing surprised me here anymore lol
you may nominate me as worst person here i wont be offended i,ll just kill myself lol

Everyone being 'talked about' will be in the sub forum

Well the others wouldn't be discussed since they'd have opted out...

So you can only be "talked about" if you "opt in"?? sounds weird!

It's quite simple.
You have either an opt-out or opt-in list as per usual, a private sub forum is created viewable to members only, and then that gets narrowed down to those who have either opted in or haven't opted out.
Discussion of the awards is only permitted within the sub forum, in any other section of TiBB and those members are infracted/banned.
That way it's doing none of these so-called 'problems':
1) Putting new members off of joining, because they won't be able to see the awards
2) Causing arguments and drama in other areas of the forum
3) Causing arguments/drama at all really, considering those who are opting in or who haven't opted out understand it's all light hearted fun
And most importantly, those who have opted out, or haven't opted in are required to fulfil their requested obligation of not participating. Quite simply, if you wish to distance yourself from the awards, then you have no business commenting on them at all. Your name can't be mentioned anyway seeing as you've opted out, so those people should just be able to get on with their business in other areas of the forum, and leave those who wish to participate alone, just as they wished in the first place.
That's it. The simple solution.

I won't bother, thank you!
Well Matt has said he wouldn't have an opt in system so that couldn't work. And the normal rules would still have to apply if there was a private sub forum
Plus not all the categories are specific member ones, even those who opted out would probably end up being included in some way in the awards for most controversial moments, threads etc. and those are the awards are the ones that cause the most drama on here because it leads people to revisit them all and bring up again all the tensions they created

Yeah I know how it works! Just wondering if enough people would be bothered to opt in to make it a worthwhile exercise. I seem to remember people who only post in the BB section getting quite a few noms last time round so the Razzies did encompass quite a number of forum members not just a few!

Yes!! :joker: several times during one argument if I remember correctly! I wanted to be as mad as hell, but I was actually LOLing
Have it properly or don't have it at all. Main forum, no watered down pussyfooting opt out option, arguments inevitably caused - a solid two hours entertainment - and then deleted. Go to sleep, wake up and life goes on. View it if you want, don't view it if you don't want. Boogeymen on the internet might talk mean about you. Sob.
No compromises. What's the ****ing point?

I'm going to say this. If attracting new members and not putting them off is such a BIG issue why is nothing being done about the actual forum to encourage greater numbers of new users? For example this site hasn't been updated in so long, I even ran a competition for a new forum skin to make it look a bit more up to date/modern in which some members went out of their way to design stuff and yet nothing has come of it still to this day.
This is the most logical solution, we need to do this!

Those were the days :(
Cuda give it a rest and stop trying to bring an argument from another thread into this one.
Those were the days :(
Yep. Those days when the forum was way busier.

I think Jack's suggestion is great. I for one would opt in. It's not ideal but of course times change and sometimes we need to adapt to new circumstances.
