Could you kill a animal for food?. it would involve not only killing the animal but preparing it to be eaten, this would mean gutting, skinning or plucking said animal.

is there any animal from my list that you would not kill but other's that you would.
all types of fish including dolphins, all types of birds, sheep, cow, goat, pig, horse, rat, snake.

would you only be prepared to kill a animal your self for food in a survival situation?

have you killed a animal or animal's and then eaten it or them?

In a survival situation, of course.

..I don't eat meat but yeah, I could in a survival situation...probably not a family pet though, that would feel the same as killing/eating a human, which I couldn't so under any circumstances....or at least, couldn't imagine doing..but we never know, do we....

a family pet, I think pushes this situation to the limit of what you would be prepared to kill and eat.

I eat meat but I wouldn't kill a animal myself but I would eat it when it is cooked I do understand why people don't eat meat

no, I was thinking on the lines of a hunting trip, you have food in your back packs, but you would then be asked to kill a animal prepare it to be eaten and then eat it.

..no, I could/would never hunt and kill an animal for the sake of hunting and killing it...

but is it not better to hunt and kill a animal for food then just to do it for sport?

..I don't believe in the hunting of an animal with the intention to kill at all, except if it were in a survival situation...

this is one of the main reasons for this thread to see how members feel about killing a animal and what it would take for members to do it.

I have no problem killing a animal if its for food.
I think I would have to be in a very desperate situation to kill a family pet for food.

I said this in my veggie thread, the main reason I was considering going vegetarian was because I don't think I have it in me to outright slaughter an animal for its meat when I could get food elsewhere.

If It was a dire situation I would probably have no choice.

Obviously if it was between survival or starving to death I would, but no, I couldn't kill an animal then eat it.

I'm quite happy to eat a dead animal if it's from nice polystyrene packaging in Asda but to have seen it in its live form, murder it then have to prepare it does not appeal to me in the slightest..

Yes, without much trouble. In fact, I fund the idea of full self-sufficiency (hunting and growing all of my own food) quite appealing... Not least because hunting and humanely killing an animal in the wild is a lot less cruel than the conditions that most "supermarket meat" animals have to suffer through their short lives.

I do find it a bit odd that any meat water would refuse to kill an animal. By being a meat consumer (and adding to demand for meat) - you are passively killing animals anyway.

There are animals I wouldn't be interested in eating in an everyday situation - other primates, for example, and probably dolphins as there is a lot of evidence of them being highly intelligent to the point of awareness of self (they have an abstract concept of "themselves" and mortality - most animals don't).

In a survival situation I'd kill and eat pretty much anything. Not a human under any circumstances though - not for any real moral issue - but because us Humans are so full of chemicals and pollutants that we are actually toxic. Yummy! I'd certainly KILL another human though, if survival made it necessary. E.g. if my daughters were at risk of starving and I came across some fellow with a bag of food, I'm afraid he'd be getting a brick to the back of the head :(.

I could if it was absolutely necessary, but in all seriousness I can only imagine being able to kill a chicken.
So I would try to live of chicken and fish

No, but only because I am squeamish.

Hubby used to go rabbiting years ago, our 10 year old daughter could gut and skin a rabbit as good as anybody Yuk, the smell was awful.

I just don't think I could, but I suppose one doesn't know what they'll do if they were starving, fortunately I've never been in that position.
