View Full Version : Are we 'appearance' obsessed....

..so based on IAC and Rebecca and Amy and the effect on Rebecca of cruel 'appearance' Facebook comments, when she's such an accomplished person..(it's also being discussed on the Right Stuff..)....do you think that we're obsessed with physical appearance more than anything else...

..there's also a Telegraph article suggesting it's a British obsession..that on Facebook etc, people tend to care more about their appearance/photos etc more than any accomplishments they may have... but surely if that's true, then it's not just in this country or worse in this country...

Without a doubt. It takes the very best of a person to not take appearence into consideration when judging another person.

See with my friends we often do judge eachother, but in a jokey kind of way (for instance 'what the hell are you wearing?'). Though I wouldn't judge a friend on their physical appearance.

..yeah, I thinks that's just a jokey thing though, not a judgement..(even if you do think that shirt they have on is a bit dodgy..)...it's more (like IAC..)..when people feel that whatever they have achieved in life is 'judged' far less than their physical appearance, which seemed to be the way with Rebecca...I wonder if she had a choice..would you rather be an Olympic swimmer or perceived as 'beautiful', which she would choose....

Well, duh! The entirety of western society is image obsessed! We're all told left, right, and centre how we can make ourselves more attractive via the media, and you need only walk down the beauty isles of a supermarket to see that proven true.

yes women have always been materialistic and obsessed with superficial things like appearance....they claim they aren't which is simply dishonest.....british women are the worst in all of western society though....very shallow false attention seeking people with victim mentality written across their faces..of course this is why the debt per head in the UK is one of the worst in the world

..look even at nurses....false nails false hair false eyelashes, no wonder they dont do their jobs properly. How does one change padding, dressings , bandages with false nails? the best nurses are mostly foreigners or men....some of these self obsessed women are truly revolting...yes of course there are now many men too who have been feminized , but thankfully the number is far less....little girls now look more like Barbie dolls and all women ever talk in the UK is money, clothes, heels, twitter, facebook tatoes false nails etc its shallow and boring...pity those poor husbands who go to work fixing the roads, the plumbing , the electrics, the fires, the scaffolding, the buildings etc etc

But Im a mysogynist for even stating the truth lol

Jake.

No I don't Im just being honest. youre just too spineless, cold and indifferent to see the reality out there....did you know 25000 people died from clots they picked up in UK hospitals last year? from sub standard nursing? do you even care? Didn't think so, shame on you.

Jake.
25-11-2013, 10:04 PM
Did you also know that not every nurse is a woman, and not all woman nurses are obsessed with getting their nails done and most probably do go about their duty of care? Of course you don't, because you have this bizarre fixation that every woman is the same and us men are treated harsher.

MeMyselfAndI

wow what an amazing insight? lol yea I did. the vast majority are women though and loads are substandard and are directly responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocents as has been proven and more and more witll be exposed. you have a very unhealthy fixation in not recognising what women do so wrong in this society and how much they get away with. Open your eyes misandrist

Jake.

yes but women are often not as accountable. whats the law against women who bankrupt their partners with insatiable credit spending....how many nurses have gone to prison? why do far fewer female murderers go to prison? why is society so easy on the mass deaths under bad nursing practice? why do women get the house the kids and half the income in over 80% of divorces cases? why is over double the money spent on womens health? why do women live 4 + years longer in all western nations? why are male suicides 4 times higher? why don't you care about the tens of thousands who die at the hands of uncaring incompetent nurses, most of whom are women?

Jake.
25-11-2013, 10:17 PM
Why are you even turning this into another sexist debate. Answer the OP, don't start trying to relate thousands of deaths to a nurse getting her nails done at the weekend, and don't question my morals.

the truth
25-11-2013, 10:20 PM
In my classes the girls do better than us guys in Biology/Chem/Maths, so they obviously are hardworking

yes 90% of teachers for kids under 14 are women....the laws and stigma has made it harder for men to get jobs teaching kids....this disadvantages boys badly and they fall further behind.....this is proved by all the figures....as the years go by boys catch up a bit.....but there are still more female graduates than males , so shouldn't you care about the fact boys are flaling behind? or do you celebrate their failings. isn't equality meant to work both ways? thankfully these boys become men often if they survive childhood with no father and no male teacher....then they end up doing the harder riskier jobs like fighting on the front line for poor wages then they come back to a country with no military hospitals , so end up on the NHS to be neglected by nurses...nice life for young men lol

don't tell me what to do...youre too spineless too address any of the serious issues Ive brought up. you cant argue against the points because unlike you I know what Im talking about and I have done my homework. have you tried changing bedclothes , bandages, syringes, drssings, creams, medications, wearing false nails? its mindless, just like your avoidance of the dumbing down of our society by radical feminism

Vicky.
25-11-2013, 10:23 PM
Erm..MMI is a young man, so its a little silly to insinuate hes sexist against himself or doesn't care about young men :S

Anyway, in answer to the OP yes. Its quite sad really but goodlooking people do tend to have a easier life, in all aspects. I have been guilty of judging people on appearance sometimes, I dont even know why. I do try not to do it though.

Dont be so ****ing patronising. Its quite easy to spot false nails and I have never ever seen a nurse wearing them (on duty anyway, after work is non of my business)

This sounds dumb, I'm probably going to sound silly at explaining but I don't judge people by appearance much, I don't care how people look, especially random people like anyone here, in all honesty I think personality matters much more than appearance.

But when it comes to myself, I am very appearance concious and a bit obsessed with trying to make myself look 'pretty'. I hate how I look. I'm really plain and boring, a bit over weight (working on that though and I've lost almost half a stone so I'm only 11lbs off my goal which would be middle of what a girl my age and height should weigh) and I feel my appearance matters a lot but other peoples not so much.

That's funny because the main reason I started to feel bad about how I looked was because a group of boys 2 years above me in school made fun of me having freckles.

Don't act like you know everyone's business because you don't.

Yup, take his advice SH. No bloke will ever judge you, ever, because all of us blokes are perfect and we skip in fields with flowers attached around our necks, whilst every woman working for the NHS is getting their nails done and doing their hair whilst they should be at work caring for the sick.

You're not allowed to be racist on this forum... but you're allowed to be sexist? Come on... this disgustingly sexist drivel is offensive. If such wild generalisations were being made about black people, or Jewish people, or Polish people (for instance) there'd be hell to pay. The fact that it's discriminating against 50% of the population disgusts me.
