[A huge and very public intellectual brawl
seems certain. Already a former
BBC director-general, Greg Dyke,
has quarrelled openly with Grant Shapps,
the Conservative Party chairman,
over Shapps's suggestion that
after 2016 licence fee money
ought not to given exclusively to the BBC.]

Its time for the BBC to stand on its own Feet

I really resent having to pay TV license. I think is ridiculous to be quite honest. I do not watch ANY BBC programs, listen to any of their radio or anything. I know the license covers more than that, but I don't think its right that pretty much everyone that owns a tv has to subsidise the BBC.

its disgusting the tv licence. its pure robbery . 2014 and people are still being held up by gunpoint over a tv channel. they are scum of the earth
you cant even have a tv and not watch the stupid channel. people pay tons of money per month for sky and other providers yet still have to pay for a tv licence just cause of the bbc.
2014 and were no further ahead than eighteen hundreds when they used to come around for taxes and if you didn't pay take you away

Those tv licence hunters are like vampires. dont let them in

The license fee should remain. Losing the BBC or having them become a commercial broadcaster like itv would be a real shame. The BBC is unique and something we should be proud of.

I haven't paid my tv licence fee for 5 years. The letters go straight in the bin. They've not yet once knocked on my door. If they ever do I just won't answer it.

Firstly, Grant Schapps is so shady and has so many questions to answer about his business affairs, I'm surprised he's got the nerve to raise his head above the parapet. Secondly, I think the licence fee is actually not bad value for money, considering how many people pay three, four, five times that, maybe more, to watch Sky's eight hundred channels of crap.

The government should come clean and admit that this is a Tax on owning Broadcast Receiving Equipment they call it, erroneously, the Licence Fee" implying that the BBC is responsible. True the BBC gets the money, but it is a GOVERNMENT imposed tax. It's just surprising that they haven't added a £50 extra "Green" surcharge, or maybe they get enough from the so-called Air Passenger Duty.

Edit: Presumably you are aware that if your computer, laptop, Tablet or phone is capable of receiving "real time" broadcasts it also needs a licence?

It is a totally unnecessary evil, the BBC probably has a worldwide income that would make your eyes water.
