I guess it's because we can't really relate to female comedians in alot of ways. But then again I always hear women saying they don't like any female comedians as well. Don't know really

Because men and women are judged completely differently in society, and what is acceptable or funny for a man can be taken in a number of negative ways for women. It all comes down to sexism. My favorites comics are women (Kathy Griffin, Sarah Silverman) because I try to take people at face value, not for what's between their legs, and because I appreciate the adversaries female comics have to overcome to make it in an essentially male-dominated profession.

The main thing it comes down to is your sense of humour. Loads of female comedians make me laugh as do loads of male ones.
I thoroughly enjoy well crafted jokes regardless of what gender created them.

This is very very true
you will certainly have heard the following from a female friend who is enumerating the charms of a new (male) squeeze: "He's really quite cute, and he's kind to my friends, and he knows all kinds of stuff, and he's so funny … " (If you yourself are a guy, and you know the man in question, you will often have said to yourself, "Funny? He wouldn't know a joke if it came served on a bed of lettuce with sauce béarnaise.") However, there is something that you absolutely never hear from a male friend who is hymning his latest (female) love interest: "She's a real honey, has a life of her own … [interlude for attributes that are none of your business] … and, man, does she ever make 'em laugh."

there are no funny female stand up comics, and females in general are not as funny as men
MeMyselfAndI
07-12-2013, 01:28 AM
Miranda Hart is hilarious
..I'm not sure they're any less funny than males in stand-up..there aren't many male stand-ups that are funny either..but females like Kristen Wiig are funny with well written lines in movies etc...stand-up in general is just awful/nothing original...
Shaun
07-12-2013, 04:40 AM
ammi that's nonsense :nono: there're plenty of awesome stand-ups... Eddie Izzard, Richard Pryor, Billy Connolly, Tommy Cooper, Bill Hicks, Bill Bailey, Stewart Lee, Louis CK, Patrice O'Neal, Doug Stanhope, Woody Allen, Omid Djalili (although once you've seen one set, you've seen them all)
granted, not many today, but to say stand-up in general is awful is pretty silly.
i dunno if women are more suited to writing comedy than actually performing it in this format... there're plenty of good examples of great comic writers that're female (Wiig, Fey, Poehler, Brand, french + saunders, perkins + giedroyc, mccarthy...)
..yeah, but a lot of those are 'old style'..and there isn't any really original ones anymore, I don't think..to me, it's almost a generic formula of stand up..I remember going to see Billy Connolly and I was literally crying, but there is no one who would make me do that anymore..of the 'current' ones...not in a stand up, anyway/movies can still do that...
..but with the female ones, some tend to base a lot of their stand up on typically female things rather than general human nature things so they immediately exclude some audience because males don't relate to that..and not all females do either..well, they do but it isn't necessarily something they find funny in stand up...same old, same old....
..oh and also, with Richard Prior/Eddie Izzard..(who I adore...)..a lot of it is 'visual' and I can't think of any female comedians who are so good at that..
It's cos whenever I see a woman on stage I expect her to take her clothes off.

Judging by the success of stars such as Victoria Wood, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Tracey Ulman, Ruby Wax, Jo Brand, Helen Degeneres, Miranda Hart and Saran Millican it seems lots of people find some women very funny.

Finding those mentioned funny in general and then finding them funny during stand up routines are 2 completely different things though Kizzy a lot of the names you mentioned there have had a lot more going on than stand up.

Yes josy I did/ do find them all funny many did stand up in the 90s on friday/sat night live, just for laughs and the secret policemens ball.
Some have gone on to do other things but began their careers doing stand up as many comedians do.

Victoria is generally touted as Britain's number one comedienne, so maybe the problem is you don't have a sense of humour, you ever thought about it that way?

Yes you already made that point josy, a lot of comedians make their name on the stand up comedy circuit before being approached to do other things or writing for other people.

Simply put , because women cannot laugh at themselves
take genius like laurel and hardy all the humour is at their own expense laughing at themselves and the absurd situations in which they find themselves
if women could learn to laugh at themselves more , one glorious day they may learn to be funny
..I think males and females both laugh at themselves and certainly comedians of both genders use that material in stand-up...guys say...hey what about this/when this happens...and females do the same, oh, come in ladies etc...but the thing is for a female comedian in doing that, she kind of niches her audience, I think because lots of guys don't want to hear it and lots of females don't either/it's cringy/not funny..but when guys do the same and poke fun at their gender, lots of guys laugh and females do to, not because it's any more funny but just because females are polite and just lovely like that...as you know, I'm sure....

I don't think they like to be called comedienne's because of some PC reason.
The same way a lot of "female actors" don't like being called "actresses". They are actors.
