I love Midnight Mass :amazed: Makes me feel really Christmassy, the Carols and the atmosphere.

Legitimately agree with this. I keep trying to tell everyone that they're just a bunch of consumerist assholes parading as pious family folk, but no one's been too receptive to that.

I've been to a Christian Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. It was beautiful, the service was by candlelight in a beautiful Norman church decked out with greenery... and all the carols... and I didn't blurst into flames so it was all good.

I have generally gone to midnight mass, although now Catholic churches are doing away with holding masses at midnight now.

I used to always go with my Grandmother and the family, it is likely I will be at some service over Christmas.

No, the year I stopped was the year I got my first Take That tour DVD actually, the whole family hasn't gone in years though, clearly following my lead.

Church at christmas is great tbf, brings everyone together on the day all jolly and festive, unfortunately I can never be bothered to make the short trip to our local church for it though

I used to go to midnight mass but they stopped once the numbers got smaller and smaller.

A lot of the family tend to go in the evening on Christmas Eve with my nan.

there is something quite nice about going for the midnight mass though, although that might just be because I was a kid and loved the thought of being awake at midnight for the first time in my life

Nope. Why anyone desires to pack themselves into a cold building to listen to incredibly boring sermons on Christmas is beyond me.

Always used to go as a family to midnight mass when I was younger, it was pretty nice actually especially if when you left the Chapel it was all snowy and calm, felt really christmassy.

Don't ever really go to church or chapel at all now unless it's a funeral, wedding, christening etc.

Marsh.

Not wanting to go to church because it's Christmas?

..at my church they stopped midnight mass because of people coming out of the pub and going there...I think it became a bit to 'jolly' for them...

I think that is the case in a lot of places, Midnight mass now seems to be at 9pm or 10, I blame MTVN.

I have to admit, in my younger years we'd stagger into our local abbey for the midnight service on Christmas Eve after being out all night. We always behaved ourselves though.

Vicar who used to be in our village used to spend Christmas eve down the pub and then perform the midnight service drunk himself

He was an alcoholic though, a proper old school vicar you could say, was before my time

Ironic post of the day.

Yes because the religious significance of Christmas really is why people celebrate it nowadays. For most people Christmas is just a day to give gifts more than it is about the birth of Christ.

For godssake, calm down.

It was a joke, as the origin/root of Christmas is religious. Lighten up.
