not big brother related really but lets hope big brother dosent get dropped!

A spokesperson for the channel has confirmed that it is "not intending" to broadcast the third series of the fairytale drama, which is broadcast by ABC in the US.

They told DS: "Channel 5 has not picked up the rights for the next series. At the moment we're not intending to pick up the show."

Once Upon a Time debuted in the UK in April 2012 and pulled in a strong audience for Channel 5, with 2.2 million tuning in to the first episode.

The ABC show's 2011 series premiere attracted 12.8 million viewers, and this season premiered to 8.52m viewers in September 2013.

It is expected to return to the network in March 2014 following its mid-season break.

It won't:

“I think Channel 5 will have it for a very long time. It may not always be at 9 o’clock or 10 o’clock – it may move to 11 o’clock -but you don’t get rid of something that big without having a number of things up your sleeve to replace it.

“I like to think that it’s got a lot more in it and that we will continue to surprise people and evolve it. The basic premise of people in a house will always be the same, but I think there’s a good few years in it yet because we are significantly up on the last couple of years.”

The planning permission at Elstree was for 5 more years (on Channel 4 they did it 3 years at a time) so that suggests a belief in the future viability of the format.

I don't think a show that gets millions of viewers, the most press coverage of any Channel 5 show, and is the cornerstone of their schedules can be compared to an American drama whose ratings slid in to the hundreds of thousands

What a shame, I watch it at the American pace though so it doesn't affect me.

I didn't watch Once Upon A Time but I'm quite surprised at this as I remember reading that it pulled strong ratings (obviously not anymore, though) for C5.
