View Full Version : Emma Willis thinks A-list stars make for rubbish housemates

Celebrity Big Brother presenter Emma Willis reckons that the show shouldn’t bother going after huge stars.
Every year there are some big named stars linked to the show, with Lindsay Lohan being a particular rumour that seems to crop up every January, but Emma says they’d be let downs.
Speaking to us about Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5, Emma hit out at A-list stars in the house.
She said: “With people like Nadine [Coyle] and your Lindsay Lohans, they’re so media trained that you’re never going to get anything from them.
“People go, ‘Oh My God, Nadine’s going in, we’re going to find out all about Girls Aloud’, but you’re not.”
Emma, who took over the main show from Brian Dowling in the summer, continued: “She’s not going to do that, she’s still a part of it, you don’t s**t where you eat, do you?”
Uber Big Brother fan Emma said viewers shouldn’t expect to see big stars in the house, and thinks it’s very much for the better.
“I say this every time, but you’re not going to get A-listers on board because they don’t need to do it,” Emma told us. “It’s not about how famous someone is, it’s their personality.
“Nadine Coyle, realistically, what are we going to get from her as a housemate? She may be real famous, but we need content.”
Pete.

She's kind of right. The most famous people have been dull.

They more than likely would.
The z-listers, desperados are what make the series.
Look at some of the bigger names they have had.. terrible, just recently Martin Kemp.

Tottally bang on the money only she forgot to mention we don't need dumm beauty pageant trained slappers as well. They always come in with a full deck of sympathy cards and if they are not English, the race cards in the deck as well.

Luckily, that isn't something the casting team have to worry about

She's not wrong. Desperate trashy z-listers with no other career options are almost always the standout housemates of each series.

I don't think there's a rule that they're all dull. But, yeah, a big A-lister won't guarantee entertainment. The only thing is though, have we ever tested this theory? I don't recall any A-lister ever having stepped foot inside.
I'd disagree about Lindsay Lohan though, there's only so long your media training can hold up. She could do it for a day or two and then give her alcohol or something to cry about and she'd explode.
Unless of course they give her frequent visits outside of the house to speak to her manager/family/therapist and then send her back in to do yoga, which would be hidden from viewers.

Tbh, I wish it would go back to a 2 week at the most stint for charity every couple of years, with just a few fun tasks and stuff thrown in. I'm bored of CBB being thrown at us.

Who the heel asked for Nadine Coyle? LMAO since when has she been such a big personality that people are begging for her to go into the house?

They do, they have demands on what they can and can't do, and **** like that..people who are just desperate for the cash are normally better
However I hate how they then dress them up as A-listers when they know that they're not

LOL exactly. Never. I don't believe her 'A list' status anyway, how did she earn A list status with her debut single coming in at 22 in the charts and her debut album coming in at 47?! :joker:

...by being the lead singer of a record breaking, trend setting girl group that dominated the charts for 7 years?
Anyway, she's right. The more famous someone is, the more of an image they have to protect so if for some reason they agreed to go into the CBB house, they're not going to give anything away. It's better if we have local stars - soap actors/actresses, mid-level popstars/ex popstars... people who have nothing to lose and everything to gain through exposure on the show.

GA were fabulous and defiantly one of the biggest girl groups this country has ever had and once upon a time i believe she was an 'A list' celebrity (like in the peak of Girls Aloud's success) but personally i believe Nadine is nothing without the rest of GA anyway. I mean come on, do you believe Nadine is still an A list celebrity now? I mean her solo career bombed. At most i would call her C list.

CBB is not a show that A listers would sign to, so no problem.
All desperate has beens or desperate wannabes.....perfect:hugesmile:

I'd call Girls Aloud an A-list pop act. She's an A-list popstar. It depends how you view things really. I don't think she's a fame seeking wannabe, which is usually what defines C-list/Z-list celebrities. It's not like it's a clearly defined set of rules . At any rate, she won't be going into the Big Brother house, she's pregnant, not short of cash and lives in the USA.

GA were an A List pop band but i have never seen Nadine as an A lister on her own if that makes sense, but like you said its depends how you view things. So you don't think 'A list status' can change? I mean all of the Spice Girls were A List stars in the 90s but i wouldn't say Emma B or Mel C are still A list just like how i wouldn't say Nadine is an A lister anymore.

There are A Listers that would make great value tbf. Can you imagine Money Mayweather in there or someone along those lines who is huge, but doesn't give a **** what people think. They just tend to bring in singers/actors who are ridiculously dull.
And yeah. Nadine isn't A list. A Spice Girl I would agree with.

Coolio was the "best value for money" bigger name they've ever had in there... absolute gold.
There has never been an A-list celebrity in the house. Mainly Z's and D's, a couple of C's and maybe an ex B or two... but nothing close to A-list.
There are hardly any UK singers who qualify as A-list... let alone a member of a dead girl band. The "biggest name" from Girls Aloud is Cheryl and she is barely scraping the bottom of the B-list barrel.
I think they seem to like to just skip over the whole concept of B and C though... you're either Z, D or suddenly A in Big Brother world.
In reality... an A-list star, you're looking at the PROPER big leagues... people CURRENTLY pulling in massive Box Office figures or huge on the "world stage"... e.g. Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt... etc. or your older relics like Arnie, Sly Stallone (not Jackie... haha), Harrison Ford, Robert DeNiro, people who might not be particularly active now but were HUGE in their day.
Lindsay Lohan being invited along to a party with these guys? ... Really? Maybe as some sort of circus act where they load her up with vodka and cocaine for giggles but that's about it. Lindsay Lohan is not an A-list celebrity. She's currently hovering around C and was never above B.

Every year they do the same thing. They put the rumour machine in full tilt and drop names all over the place to get the hype, then on opening night, we see the same dullard, broke and desperate wannabees marching in. We are then hooked and make the best of it but the show has its marketing department at full tilt for 2 weeks before the show starts. It only takes a couple of tweets and a misplaced phone call to send some of our brothers on here into a tail spin and the ruse is perpetuated.
Everyone thinks that the huge amounts of money spent on these celebs is phenomenal but when you split it down to shows done and hours of viewing, they are gotten cheap as chips and have all kinds of after work or appearances written into their deals. CBB and BB don't loose money, they rake it in at the behest of the numpties that appear there for our viewing pleasure and we all swallow their story, bad editing, force fed media hype and crap production every single year as it is our drug of choice and we love it.

Regardless of her 'list' Nadine would be great value in there. You know she's got mega issues with the other girls and has already been quite outspoken about the break-up so hopefully she'd air that dirty laundry.
It'll never happen though.
As far as big names go, I'd say Vinnie was maybe the biggest name and he was absolutely dire in there. :idc:
So she's basically trying to tell us that the line up for this series is ****e :joker:

The given perception of what an 'A' lister can bring to the show is fatally flawed. These people have managers, gurus and marketing teams behind them and nobody will go on there and dish the dirt just for a lowly reality show. anyway when did Nadin hit that starry height, Cheryl is borderline 'A' listing but she is miles ahead of Nads anyway. If Nads goes in she will act all prim and proper and drift into an also ran. 'A' listers have never done well on there. Get Russell Brand in there with some dozy blonde wannabees and an open bar then see what happens. If that's what floats your boats.
Jake.

Michael Madsen was a great housemate and tbf cult and A lister but he was only entertaining because of the other contestants who provoked his personality out of him.
Otherwise he would have been very dull.

To be fair she is a very talented singer, had very famous boyfriend and was part of the biggest girl group in the UK.
Shes no z lister is she.
If she went to a premier or was walking down the street she would get papped and make headlines.
People like her are media trained and that's what I think Emma means, we need people who just had a glimpse of fame or was very famous years ago and yearn it lol that makes them want to go on the show and stand out, be the loudest and get them back in the papers.
There are some genuine housemates though who do just go in for the experience aka Carol Mcgiffin who should have been in this new series not the low rated summer one.
