It's a word too often misused by football commentators when what they really mean is "coincidence".

I've explained irony to an American like this: When ex-president Ronald Reagan died of Alzheimer's... America held a day of remembrance.

i would do a poem on irony,
but i don't want to insult,
because as a poet i am phony,
i have failed to form a cult.
its all about contradictions,
and sort of standards that are double,
its some how related and causing frictions,
sorry if i burst your bubble.
i am getting off this issue,
because i am a cowardly lion,
please give me that tissue,
it needs a iron.
i am not making sense,
this word does baffle,
or is it i am so dense,
and this is yet again one more waffle.
