chael Schumacher is still in a wake-up phase from his medically-induced coma, according to the latest statement released by his management.
It is the first official update on his condition in three weeks, but his management made clear his condition has not changed and that unofficial reports cannot be trusted.
"Michael is still in the wake up phase," read Friday's statement. "The situation has not changed. Any medical information published which is not confirmed by the team of doctors treating Michael or his management has to be considered as not valid."
Schumacher was placed in a medically induced coma after sustaining head injuries in a skiing accident in December. Doctors started bringing him out of the coma at the end of January
There are rumors he's breathing independently.
..is that from his family, Eoin ..?..

The soap opera returns. It is hard to remember a Formula One season starting in quite the same circumstances as this one.
The sport's greatest champion, Michael Schumacher, lies comatose in a hospital bed, its chief executive, Bernie Ecclestone, is fighting for his professional life in a German court, the champion of the past four years, Sebastian Vettel, is strapped to a Red Bull emasculated by radical changes; oh, and Ron Dennis is back.
The convergence of Vettel and Red Bull by increments squeezed the life out of the sport. Last season's procession to a fourth consecutive world championship left even the diehards screaming for mercy.
Suddenly great drivers rendered impotent by the steely brilliance of Vettel and the automotive genius of Adrian Newey have an opportunity to resurrect careers.
Lewis Hamilton's move to an uncertain Mercedes a year ago looks inspired now. Perhaps the team's biggest challenge will be keeping Hamilton and Nico Rosberg from each other's throats.
So the pieces that have been up in the air all winter are about to fall on Melbourne. The big teams will adjust fastest to the new environment and order shall eventually emerge from the chaos.
Will it be Hamilton or Rosberg, Alonso or Raikkonen, Jenson Button or Kevin Magnussen – or will fate hand Massa the trophy it stole from him at Interlagos in 2008?
In a sense none of it matters. One word from Schumacher that tells the world there is a way out of that tragic and unfathomable silence trumps any outcome on the track.
Sums up how most F1 fans feel about this season

Injured Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has been showing "small, encouraging signs" in his fight for recovery, his family says."We are and remain confident that Michael will pull through and will wake up," the relatives said in a statement.
Doctors in France have been working to bring the seven-time champion out of a medically induced coma. The 45-year-old German suffered a severe head injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps on 29 December.
He has been kept in a coma to help reduce the swelling in his brain.
'Hard fight'
On Wednesday, Schumacher's manager, Sabine Kehm, released a statement on behalf of his family because of "an increasing interest in [his] condition in light of the start of the Formula 1 season".
The family praised the efforts of the French doctors at Grenoble hospital, but also warned that "it was clear from the start that this will be a long and hard fight for Michael."
"We are and remain confident that Michael will pull through and will wake up. There sometimes are small, encouraging signs, but we also know that this is the time to be very patient," the statement added.
Investigators probing the accident said Schumacher had been going at the speed of "a very good skier" at the time of his crash in the resort of Meribel.
He had been skiing off-piste when he fell and hit a rock, investigators said.Experts reconstructed events leading up to the crash after examining Schumacher's skiing equipment and viewing footage filmed on a camera attached to his helmet.
Schumacher retired from racing in 2012 after a 19-year career. He won two titles with Benetton, in 1994 and 1995, before switching to Ferrari in 1996 and going on to win five straight titles from 2000.
Family statement in full:"We are and remain confident that Michael will pull through and will wake up. There sometimes are small, encouraging signs, but we also know that this is the time to be very patient.
Michael has suffered severe injuries. It is very hard to comprehend for all of us that Michael, who had overcome a lot of precarious situations in the past, has been hurt so terribly in such a banal situation.
It was clear from the start that this will be a long and hard fight for Michael. We are taking this fight on together with the team of doctors, whom we fully trust.
The length of the process is not the important part for us.It is heart-warming to see how much sympathy his family is shown and I can say that the family is extremely grateful for it. However, it should not be forgotten that Michael's family is dealing with an extremely intimate and fragile situation.
And I would like to remind all of us that Michael has always actively kept his family out of the public eye and consequently protected their private lives.
We try to channel all the energies we have toward Michael and we firmly believe that this will help him. And we believe that he will also win this fight."
Going in a good direction finally. FORZA MICHAEL

Very weird timing with the new season starting in 2 days...
The Australian GP will put a message onscreen before the race willing Michael to keep fighting...
Sky sports news reporting that he's showing small encouraging signs
Michael Schumacher is showing "small, encouraging signs" and his family remains confident he will "pull through and will wake up", according to a statement released on Wednesday morning.
Schumacher has now spent almost 11 weeks in a coma following a skiing accident on December 29 having undergone two operations to remove blood clots from his brain.
The 45-year-old remains in a waking-up process at the University of Grenoble hospital in France.
The statement, issued by his agent on behalf of his family, read: "We are, and remain confident, Michael will pull through and will wake up.
"There sometimes are small, encouraging signs, but we also know this is the time to be very patient.
"Michael has suffered severe injuries. It is very hard to comprehend for all of us that Michael, who had overcome a lot of precarious situations in the past, has been hurt so terribly in such a banal situation.
"It was clear from the start this will be a long and hard fight for Michael, and we are taking this fight on together with the team of doctors, whom we fully trust.
"The length of the process is not the important part for us."
And in keeping with previous official statements released by Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm, it was again made clear that the privacy of the German's family should continue to be respected.
"It is heart-warming to see how much sympathy his family is shown and I can say the family is extremely grateful for it," the statement added.
"However, it should not be forgotten Michael's family is dealing with an extremely intimate and fragile situation.
"And I would like to remind all of us Michael has always actively kept his family out of the public eye and consequently protected their private lives.
"We try to channel all the energies we have toward Michael and we firmly believe this will help him, and we believe he will also win this fight."

Muscle atrophy is reportedly taking a significant toll on Formula One racer Michael Schumacher, who’s in his 83rd day of an artificial coma after suffering a horrific skiing accident this winter.
The once fit and hearty champion has lost 25% of his body weight while doctors have tried unsuccessfully to bring him out his medically induced coma for several weeks now, according to Mirror.com.
Schumacher is reportedly down to about 120 pounds, the paper said, leading a German doctor to speculate that he’d suffered serious muscle loss.
“One must assume that his muscles have degraded greatly due to the immobility,” Dr. Curt Diehm, a German physician, told the website.
Schumacher, 45, had an accident Dec. 29 while skiing at Meribel, a resort in the French alps.
He suffered extensive brain injuries, but doctors have withheld any definitive word on his condition.
His medical team at the University of Grenoble has slowly been reducing the drugs that had kept him unconscious immediately after the accident.
German Formula One driver Michael Schumacher has lost a quarter of his weight in the 83 days he's been in a medically induced coma, doctors say.
But Schumacher has yet to regain his faculties even as doctors phase out his medications.
The seven-time champion’s wife and two children have kept daily bedside vigils with him at the hospital

The wife of Michael Schumacher is reportedly spending £10million on building a fully equipped medical suite in their family home so her husband can leave the hospital.
Even though Corinna Schumacher, 45, has been told by doctors it is highly unlikely the racing ace will ever wake up from his medically induced coma, she has decided to use the family's £500million fortune to build the facility in their lavish £25million estate on the banks of Lake Geneva, Switzerland.
Today is the three month anniversary of the Alps skiing accident where the seven-time F1 champion, 45, hit his head and was put into an induced coma to reduce brain swelling.

Since then, there have been few encouraging signs of recovery and the racing ace has been wasting away in his hospital bed, losing 25 per cent of his body mass to now only weigh 8st 7lbs.
A friend of the Schumacher's, who has known the family for 25 years, told The Sun: 'Miracles happen, of course, and as a wealthy man he has the best care money can buy.
'But all the money in the world cannot fix what has happened to him. The family are making arrangements for a future of permanent immobility.

'Is there a sense of denial at play among them? I would say yes'
The family's life has been taken over by the accident, every day they make the 150-mile round trip from their home in Switzerland to the Grenoble University Hospital, France, where Schumacher is receiving the best possible care.
They spend up to ten hours by his bedside, offering up prayers for his recovery, before returning home in the evening.
Mrs Schumacher has always been a devoted wife, extremely supportive of her husband's career.
Mr Schumacher once said: 'It is not so easy to find a partner who unconditionally adapts to the pace of my life.'
Both growing up in the same region of West Germany, Michael and Corinna Schumacher met at a party in 1991 and fell in love. The pact that has seen their loving relationship endure is that she allows him pursue his high-octane career and, in return, he would give her everything she could want.
He used the staggering fortunes from his 22-year career to snap up a ranch in Texas, where Corinna raises horses, as well as apartments and ski chalets around the world - including the one in Meribel from which he set out on the tragic day late last year.
As a result, Mrs Schumacher refuses to give up on the man she once described as the 'perfect partner'.
The family friend told The Sun she 'would view breaking faith with the hope of a miracle a betrayal, little better than treachery.
'She feels that the family communes around his bedside pulsate their hope and love to him, and that of the millions of fans worldwide who share that faith.
'She can’t express defeat because that would be the end of her.'

How long can can he remain in that state for before all hope is lost? surely they can't just keep him like that.. Although you hear about people waking up after years but the brain injury in this case is the bigger problem

Yeah I was thinking that too...
If there's no hope of him wakening up then surely they just can't leave him the way he is, not to sound harsh but that seems pretty unkind/selfish to me if it's for their own sake rather than anything else
Very sad news though :(
People spend years in comas and then ultimately pass away, and sometimes they wake up and fully recover... it's more often the former than the latter, though. I can understand wanting to keep him alive just in case he wakes up but if they've been told it's not likely to happen then I think it's a bit futile...

It depends on the brain activity. There's a measure used by doctors to decide if there's any hope at all. You have to look at it from the family point of view. If there's even a small amount of hope, then you can understand them wanting to wait and see if he wakes up. However, if there is really no hope, then it would be kinder to let him go. Very sad.

Yeah I agree with that, if she's been told by Doctors that there's still a chance of course she's not going to just shut off his machines, I wouldn't
No of course not, and they have the financial resources to maintain him at home, but it might just end up being a massive waste of time and money and drawing out the heartbreak... but of course I think most people would do the same, they would cling onto the hope that the person will wake up and be who they were before the coma. Even if he wakes up it'll be a very long battle to recovery, if he's even capable of it...

The seven-time world champion has been in hospital since Dec 29 - but Sabine Kehm says there is cause for optimism as his recovery continues

Reasons for optimism: Schumacher's manager says there are signs for encouragement
Michael Schumacher's family have been given new hope that the Formula 1 legend is getting better, writes Byron Young in Manama.
Manager Sabine Kehm rubbished reports that the family are preparing his Swiss home to become a £10m hospital as hope fades for the German.
Instead she said there were signs that gave cause for optimism.
"I can only say again: There are signs that give us encouragement'," she said.
But there was still a delicate balancing act being played by doctors who could not rule out a sudden set-back as they continue to attempt to bring him out of the coma.
If he should make more positive steps the next step, according to reports in Germany, would be to transfer him from the hospital in Grenoble to a rehabilitation clinic.
Kehm strongly refuted suggestions his home was being prepared for long term care by wife Corinna, 45, because hope of a recovery had faded.
"The rumours that Corinna remodels her house to bring the supposedly 'hopeless case Michael' home, are absolutely groundless," she said.

Michael is making progress on his way. He shows moments of consciousness and awakening. We are on his side during his long and difficult fight, together with the team of the hospital in Grenoble, and we keep remaining confident.
We would like to thank you all for the continuous sympathies. At the same time we again ask for understanding that we do not intend to disclose details. This is necessary to protect the privacy of Michael and his family, and to enable the medical team to work in full calmness.

Medical notes outlining Michael Schumacher’s condition and care have been stolen and offered for sale on the Internet.
The horrifying development was confirmed by the former F1 star’s management this evening, with the spokesperson warning that legal action would be carried out if any of the information contained in the documents was made public.
“For several days, stolen documents and data are being offered for sale. The offeror claims them to be the medical file of Michael Schumacher. We cannot judge if these documents are authentic. However, the documents are clearly stolen. The theft has been reported. The authorities are involved,” read a statement.
“We expressly advise that both the purchase and the publication of such documents and data is forbidden. The contents of any medical files are totally private and confidential and must not made available to the public. We will therefore, in every single case, press for criminal charges and damages against any publication of the content or reference to the medical file. We trust for your understanding.”
Schumacher was last week transferred from hospital to a rehabilitation facility, with medics confirming that he is no longer in a coma. It’s understood that the driver, who was gravely injured in a skiing accident in December, was conscious with his eyes open when being transferred and is now able to communicate by nodding his head

In her first public appearance since the skiing accident that left her husband in an induced coma last December, Corinna said that Michael's condition is slowly getting better, reports Efe.
Corinna was smiling and joking while handing out chocolates at a riding event in her native Switzerland.
The former seven-time F1 world champion is currently being treated in a rehab clinic near his family home in Lausanne in Switzerland after leaving Grenoble hospital in France where he had been hospitalised for months after a fatal skiing accident last December which left him comatose.

A man arrested over the suspected theft of a medical file relating to Michael Schumacher has been found hanged in his cell, Zurich police have said.
The man, who worked as a manager for the Rega air ambulance service, was found dead today in a city police jail following his arrest on Tuesday. His name has not been released and he had denied any wrong doing.
Prison officers reportedly found the man dead this morning when they brought his breakfast. He was due to appear at a hearing before a judge.
Prosecutors opened an investigation into suspected violation of professional secrecy after Rega and Schumacher's family filed criminal complaints.
Rega arranged the seven-time F1 champion's transfer in June from a hospital in France to a hospital in Switzerland, to continue his recovery from his December 29 skiing accident.
Schumacher's manager Sabina Kehm later said medical documents purported to be Schumacher's were being offered for sale to French, Swiss and German journalists for a reported figure of €50,000 (£39,600).
Ms Kehm had threatened to sue any publication that ran the confidential records.

Rega lodged a criminal complaint on July 8 for the suspected leak of Schumacher's medical files, but said at the time it had no proof that one of its employees was implicated.
An investigation by Zurich's cantonal prosecutor led to the arrest of a Rega employee on Tuesday in connection with violating patient privacy and medical secrecy.
Zurich prosecutors say initial investigations indicate that no-one else was involved.
Rega CEO Ernst Kohler said in a statement on Wednesday that the helicopter company was "saddened" by the "tragic event."
Schumacher suffered serious head injuries following the skiing accident in France, which left him in a medically-induced coma.
The 45-year-old was woken from it in June, and is currently being treated at Grenoble hospital in Switzerland near to his family home. Although his condition has improved, medical experts have said he may never fully recover and will always reply on the help of others.

There wont be any updates for a while. Apparently he communicates by blinking as he's paralysed from the neck down. All speculation though

Michael Schumacher has left hospital and will continue his recovery at home in Switzerland.
The seven-times Formula One world champion received severe head injuries in a skiing accident on December 29, 2013, and was placed in a medically-induced coma by doctors. He came out of the coma in June, and left the University Hospital of Grenoble, France for further treatment at the University Hospital of Lausanne.
"Henceforth, Michael's rehabilitation will take place at his home," said Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm. "Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months. There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead.
"We would like to extend our gratitude to the entire team at the CHUV Lausanne for their thorough and competent work. We ask that the privacy of Michael's family continue to be respected, and that speculations about his state of health are avoided."

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is paralysed and in a wheelchair, according to former racing driver Philippe Streiff.
The 45-year-old seven-time champion cannot speak and has memory problems.
Streiff, who is himself wheelchair-bound since a crash in Brazil during pre-season tests in 1989 left him a quadriplegic, was speaking on French radio.
The Frenchman, who is a good friend of Schumacher's, said: 'He is getting better but everything is relative.
'It's very difficult. He can't speak. Like me, he is in a wheelchair paralysed. He has memory problems and speech problems.'
Streiff, 59, was seen visiting Schumacher when the German was in intensive care in Grenoble Hospital, France.

I guess it's still very early days, really. At one point we didn't think he'd make it at all. Always hoping for good news, thanks for the updates, Iceman.

It's hard to believe this hapoened nearly a year ago. I'm always gonna keep the faith. What this man accomplished is unmatched. He's my hero and I'll always support him. #ForzaMichael
Also at least we had some good news about Jules Bianchi today.

So sad, but it's good to hear he's slowly getting better.

A lesser man would have died. His was so extremely fit though, that's got to have been a major factor in his recovery, even if that recovery does seem slow. I'm still hopeful for him.

Share the sentiment. This is the man that made me fall in love with F1 when I was a kid. He'll never be the same man he was before the accident but I'm sure he and the doctors will be determined enough to give him a decent quality of life.

An exclusive report from Express UK said that the care costs have now amounted to over £10 million. Aside from the very expensive care costs, there is no assurance that the 46-year-old retired racer will recover completely from the accident he suffered.
The last update about Schumacher's health is that he has woken up from the coma. He is reportedly now under the personal care of his family and nurses in his Lake Geneva home. This is all everyone knows because the family requested a complete news blackout regarding Schumacher's condition.
However, Express UK was able to talk to an insider who allegedly knows something about what Schumacher is going through right now.
"Progress is painfully slow. There is no miracle on the horizon," the insider shared.
The seven-time Formula One World Champion is reportedly being cared for by a medical team composed of 15 health professionals, all of which work under the direction of Professor Jean-Francois Payen. Professor Payen was the one who operated on Schumacher's brain blood clots.
Meanwhile, Michael Watson, a former boxer who suffered brain damage after being knocked down, shared his experience with Express.
"If you look at severe head injury victims who go on to make a good recovery – and I'm not saying all do – it will always be a story of years. The first months are dominated by questions of survival. Gradually, as the weeks and months go by those questions of survival turn into questions of the quality of survival," Watson said.
Right now, Schumacher is described to have "limited awareness" and is still unable to walk. His muscles are massaged on a daily basis for stimulation. Findings are said to be recorded every hour.
Family and friends continue to give their outpouring love and support for Schumacher. His father has reportedly also moved to Germany to be closer to him
Hopefully some news in the build up to the season opener.

Apparently he is making slow progress. The media blackout is still in place. Can't believe it's nearly 2 years since the accident.
