I think that Girls Aloud would win it for us if they participated.

Nobody will ever win it for the UK again.

For once I wish they'd put forward an established modern British act. Wouldn't be shocked if one of the Big Reunion acts went for it this year

I've said it since 2007 and I'll say it again.

She's American
I thought that didn't matter?

Did Celine not do it and she's Canadian?

James Blunt. He's mega all over Europe.

Also would like a band from The Big Reunion to do it, probably Eternal or 5ive.

Yeah she did it for swizterland in the 80s.

Think about it, we'd win hands down, and they'd probably do it for the right cash

LaLaLand

Yeah she did it for swizterland in the 80s.

Also Katrina & The Waves were our last winners, she was American right?

EDIT: the musicians were English.

Honestly do not think it matters. The voting is mostly political anyway

LaLaLand
05-01-2014, 10:56 PM
They should have a "minimum proximity" vote for once, like inland countries aren't allowed to vote for countries directly neighbouring them or something.

Would never happen but would definitely alter things.

It's political to an extent but the winner's jumped around the continent every year, at the end of the day it still comes down to who has the best song, I think.

I was gonna say this too.

Michelle Gayle should get to do it, she was robbed of doing it instead of Andy from the X Factor that year!

Too many people hate the uk now to even consider voting for them, even if we had the best song in the world and sang by the best singer in the world

Hell, we cant even rely on semi-high points from ireland anymore :bored:

We need something different and stand out, but good. We always send drab or cheese acts.

meh, the "everyone hates the UK" argument is BS imo, and just the excuse banded about by our media because we sent total dirge year after year (Jemini, Daz Sampson, Scooch, Javine)

the fact we finished 5th as recently as 2009 proves we can still get far, it's just we need to make a song Europe would be interested in, not just Brighton's queens

Genuinely don't think people hate the UK, people vote for their neighbours because they know those popstars... the UK sends trash every year that even we wouldn't vote for if we could

Jade Ewen and Andrew Lloyd Webber toured Europe with the song before the contest, raised awareness of it around Europe, plus it helps that it was a decent song sung by a good singer. Normally we just send some nobody or a has been with a reject song

It is totally political yes, we are unlikely to ever win it again even if we had a vastly superior song :(

I would like someone relevant, someone who is already selling albums across europe.

It makes more sense since european people will be voting for it.

Shaun

the only really predictable "political" votes that I can think of are

Cyprus/Greece
and Ukraine/Russia

also let's not pretend we don't benefit from automatic Irish points

King Gizzard

+ Malta

and I never get why no one actually current does it, I don't think it would ruin their career as is generally thought

Vicky.

Honestly dont see how it could ruin anyones career? If anything surely it would boost them a bit more

Pixie Lott wanted to do it a couple of years ago when she was actually relevant and they didn't let her. I think the BBC/UK doesn't want to take on the responsibility of hosting it, it's very expensive.

I always think one of the x factor acts should do it depending on the right song. I dont really want to win just dont want to finish low down and make a mockery
Was quite gutted how rubbish Blue did but the song wasnt that good really.
