I wanted to make a thread where people talk about stuff - probably mostly scientific stuff - that just completely dumbfounds you. My example:
Wireless internet. Everything wireless in fact: radio, TV, phones... just... how do you take a physical thing, and break it up into data, and then it goes....through the ****ing air... to another receiver? HOW????? WHAT MAGIC IS THIS
I don't want an answer btw just other examples of stuff you're kind-of in awe of.
..I don't know, I'll have to think more about it but flying always seems really impossible..aeroplane flying..just how something so heavy can do that and also the capacity for holding so much fuel for longer journeys...and also how they can be so sure that everything is really airtight...and also with better technology/facilities etc, why didn't they make better loos etc because they're just awful and why do they have to be so small...yeah, flying/aeroplanes...
..and micro surgery is quite amazing really...

Mother Nature, all creatures are amazing, love nature documentaries. In particular I'm fascinated by penguins and everything they do, such intelligent creatures.
..nice biscuits as well, Kate...

Ah yes Ammi, they are actually :) And Jacobs clubs
Actually, on the food theme, cos I'm not much of a cook it amazed me how chefs create the most gorgeous dishes at the drop of a hat, mouthwatering.
..Heston Blumanthal is a bit of a mind blowing person with his cooking inventions and how it's so scientific...

I agree with wireless being mind blowing, I was just thinking about it last night. It's fascinating. Also digital cameras, the way you can just point a lens at something and it captures the image, I know there is obviously an explanation for it, but it still amazes me so much.

space and the universe, can be a mind bender, the big bang theory and the mass of space can make your head hurt if think about it for to long.

It's kind of old hat....but I was completely in awe of the fact that I actually grew another human being. I know the biological side of it but it amazes me when babies are just born and you look at this tiny human that just a few minutes before they were exactly like that but inside you and months before they didn't exist at all!!

i would go with the internet phones and wireless and mobiles as well if you truely think about it then its pretty crazy. its amazing what we can do now and we take it for granted and want more more more lol
videos that led to movies and tv i think is pretty crazy. to capture ourselves in time is a amazing thing. i bet when the first video ever came out people were just wow.
but i still watch old movies of dead movie stars or young ones and think wow it is amazing really. you come and you go but that lives on forever
Medicine. It's amazing that they've worked out how to target specific problems in specific areas of your body without affecting anything else... I mean how did somebody figure out how to combat a headache?

technology in general, like if you open a laptop or a phone up you just see a load of metal **** and it's just like how the **** does that make a laptop/phone work

Definitely! I remember being fascinated with my daughters ears when she was a newborn.. So perfectly made and intricate ... And I grew them inside my tummy!
The thought of my brain blows my mind.. So much that if I think about it for too long I feel I could freak out. Such a disgusting looking thing in my head yet capable of so much!
Languages - how did humans evolve to have a complex set of sounds that can convey an exact feeling, emotion or idea to another human; and how are there so many of them? All these people developed languages over centuries, some of them completely unrelated to others yet all of them conveying some ideas in common, some distinct that others don't express... it's amazing

That what we perceive as reality isn't actually reality, just what we understand of it.

The scale of things - the size of the universe. Also at the other end of the scale how small particles like atoms are. Also that an atom is mainly empty space.
Also the diversity and complexity of life on this planet and how it all evolved.

The fact that other people see things from the same point of view as me.. sounds weird but whenever I think that everybody also views everything from the same aspect as me, it does blow my mind somewhat.
This thread.
Sorry but my brain is farting right now at some of the posts now I'm thinking about them...

The size of the universe and how the smallest things in the world fit in it. Also the oceans; the thought of how large and calm but severely dangerous they can be. My worst fear would be to be stranded in the middle of an ocean; it's scares me
Space/air travel, and stuff like black holes, light years, faster than the speed of light/sound...

"Hubble's new photo is the most high-resolution image ever taken of Messier 9, and reveals the ancient cluster as never before. So many details of the stars are visible, despite the fact that the whole image spans an area no bigger than the size of the head of a pin held at arm's length."
