..yeah, I loved James Herriot...Catherine Cookson was ok but it was all so tragic and there was never a happy ending......well, there sort of was but never the one you expected...

I've got quite a few and I've read all they've written much, I'm a readoholic.

Sophie Hannah writes belting thrillers, very dark and tense. Dorothy Koomson is excellent, she wrote the Ice Cream Girls, recently adapted for tv. Louise Bagshawe is another author I'd recommend.

For a light hearted read Jill Mansell and Carole Matthews do great romantic comedies :)

As a kid I loved Enid Blyton and E Nesbitt.

I love reading horrors and crime/thriller so obviously Stephen King then Ian Rankin, Paul Finch (no not the guy from American Pie) Kathy Reichs basically any crime/thriller authors so I wont list them all.

Also love Martina Cole and have all her books but think she's become really repetitive and samey the past few years.

And of course G.R.R.M for the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

Jacqueline Wilson when I was a child
Probably Sophie Kinsella at the moment. I have a feeling I'll be saying G.R.R.M too when I have finished the books..

My fave is P. C. Hodgell, I picked up this battered copy of her first book in a secondhand store

after a few pages I fell head over heels in love with her imagination. I've read all her books apart from one, she has a new one on the way, it's been sent to her publishers and will be out in June. So when that one comes out, I'll start the one I've been saving.

Kafka, Wilde or Fitzgerald... need to read this Vonnegut collection I have too, and I'm sure there're plenty of others I'd like once I get past the "I've only read one of their novels" stage.

I loved these books and also the entire Sweet Valley series

Actually hated when they made Sweet Valley High into a tv show because I had my own image of how I thought everyone looked etc and that show completely ruined it

You'd probably like Sophie Hannah's thrillers if you like darker thrillers with a psychological edge Josy. I find them gripping.

Right now I am reading Deadhead by Shaun hutston , for the second time,
