Would rather enjoy a quiet pint and a good chat with Jim down the local boozer than spend a night with those awful shrieking women they've got in there, Jasmine is just a sorry state in her 30s but still with a compulsive need to dance to Katy bloody Perry whenever it comes on

Statements like this come from the young that cant understand how rudeness and perpetual potty mouth antics effects how we older people feel about life. Wait till you are old and you will see what I mean. Older people are not miserable, they are simply less tolerant to things that annoy them and the older we all get, the less we suffer fools or tolerate stupidity. Everyone loves a good laugh but there are diplomatic parameters that need not be crossed and the young seem to be loosing manners and respect for everything around them and its not hard to see why we old farts get the monk.

Don't get me wrong Jim's been a big character for the series, but I hate how some people on here and DS make out that his perfect and can do no wrong, and that the "evil girls" should be evicted for having fun while ignoring the fact that Jim's xenophobic comment of calling Jasmine "the American girl" which I haven't seen a thread for it on here so far actually.

Why is that xenophobic? Just sounds descriptive to me, to distinguish her from the others

He's always been a grumpy bugger. I think I'd have more to talk to him about than I would with most of the other house mates if I were to meet them but I wouldn't really enjoy his company I don't think.

Why couldn't he call her Jasmine? He knew her name so there was no excuse for it. It actually reminded me of Speidi's year when the rest of the Housemates couldn't be bothered to call them by their names so called them "the Americans" instead.

I just personally find it rude when people get called by their nationality instead of their name, it would be kind of like the Housemates calling Evander "the black guy" I don't think the public would react very well to it so I don't get why referring to someone by their nationality is accepted.

I agree with you and I think a lot of people would find it offensive and I'm not too fond of it either. Like you said in your post earlier they referred to Speidi as "the Americans" so much that I'm just tired of it. I do think that it is condescending though and that it is inferring that Americans are inferior to Brits.

Some of the Housemates that get put on Ch5 can be scarily xenophobic.

Jim can't get his head around NOT being centre stage and 'in charge". His attitude to women is at best intolerant and at worst misogynistic. He is a has been who has always sailed close to the wind with his pathetic and archaic attitude to the opposite sex. He likes to control - everything…A great example of how not to be…This man should NOT drink.

None of the young'uns know their English that well girl. The word old is misused, we need to teach them that old means experienced. No accounting for taste is there, lol. They think that getting rat arsed and swearing is hip and current. Manners and respect seems to be alien to them. Jim is misunderstood and much maligned for something he did long before some of these kids were born. I like him and he is doing a Paddy at the moment, silly sausage.

I don't think there's any such thing as an age gap. I think there are rude, miserable, incosiderate people of all ages. I thought the way that they planned to keep Jim awake with their silly comments and giggling, thenactually following him out to the garden, was childish in the extreme. Then they moan at him for moaning.
