Pioneer of women's wrestling. R.I.P Mae. <3

To think she took a powerbomb off a stage when she was nearly 80.

The outpouring from WWE is lovely. Most of the lifers in wwe will have grown up with her....im talking the likes of triple h, steph etc...

Oh no! I was just reading about her the other day because I'd read that she was the oldest surviving professional wrestler, that's sad... 90 is a fair old age to make it to though, and she was active right up until the end, I bet she had no regrets in life, lived it to the fullest! Rest in peace Mae Young!

WWE Hall of Famer Mae Young has died at the age of 90.

A wresting pioneer, she had her first pro-wrestling bout in 1939 and her last in match on Old School Raw in 2010, being the only person to wrestle in nine different decades.

Young was hospitalised on December 30 last year and placed on life support.

She was taken off life support and placed under hospice care at home on January 9.

Having won a clutch of titles with the National Wrestling Association, she joined the then-WWF in 1999 and took part in several live and pay-per-view events, appearing often in comedic skits with her friend The Fabulous Moolah.

"There will never be another Mae Young," WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon said.

"Her longevity in sports entertainment may never be matched, and I will forever be grateful for all of her contributions to the industry.

"On behalf of WWE, I extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends."

Her 90th birthday was celebrated last year on the March 4 edition of Old School Raw.

After the show, WWE boss Vince McMahon and COO Triple H presented her with a WWE Divas Championship replica and declared her "Forever The Divas Champion".

I remember her from back when I used to watch WWE.

Wrestling in 9 different decades, what an accomplishment.

R.I.P. Mae, amazing woman. Many a happy childhood memory watching the WWE (when it was at it's best) around 98/00 watching Mae and Moolah.

Sleep tight both.

Sad to hear, she lived to a ripe old age though eh, especially for being a wrestler, practically unheard of! Rest in peace Mae

I wouldn't do that NOW let alone at 80, she had real guts.

She was still an 80 year old woman though, there would have been a lot of risk involved regardless.

Sure but she had pads under her clothes

he held her in the right position
all worked out before it went on TV.
