I've noticed that most people think they are better looking than they actually are.

I've been called both, but regardless of what others say I love how I look. I know I'm not typically good looking (I have a large nose and nostrils, lanky as hell, very pale skin) but it's things I've learnt to love about myself.

someone actually told you that you are ugly? that's harsh.

I'm glad that most ugly people don't know they are ugly. It would be really sad if ugly people actually knew how ugly they are.

Eh, average looking - traffic doesn't stop when I walk by and there are things about my appearance that I don't like and would love to change but I'm not depressed when I look in the mirror - I put on a lot of weight last year and in the last 5 months I've made an effort to lose it all, I have up days and down days like most people...

beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

yup, that's right.

It's all relative. just like some people think feet are the sexiest thing on a partner, and other people think feet are nasty.

We're all individuals with individual tastes.

I met a guy that was all about licking arm pits. it was the sexiest thing in the world to him, but some people would be disgusted by the idea of licking someone's arm pits.

Who knows why we find some things beautiful, some things pretty, some things sexy... I can't explain it.

Its just natural. We're all individuals.

That's it, really. The majority can and will obviously reach a general opinion on looks but many appreciate traits which aren't necessarily associated with the typical, generic 'good-looking' person. One man's trash is another's gold and all that and plenty won't be into blondes and muscles. Plus there's so much more to attraction than initially meets the eye.

Dunno. Dont really care...ill ask my bf tomorrow see what he says haha

..I think that's the thing though..there are people who are classically 'physical beautiful' because they're close to what we ourselves think 'beauty' is but on the whole I think what makes someone 'beautiful' is not only the person that they are inside but also that the person/people that they love think they are...they make them feel beautiful because they see themselves through their eyes..you're beautiful if you feel beautiful...

...there could be 100 people who tell someone that they're beautiful and one person that tells them that they're ugly and it's that one person that they believe because they themselves feel ugly and 'ugly' is maybe what they see what they look in the mirror...and the same if 100 people told them they were ugly and one person told them they're beautiful, they could believe that 1 person because they feel and see 'beautiful' in themselves...

..I guess what I'm trying to say is that we are what we think we are and no matter what anyone else tells us we are...

What a great answer. :) I really like this way of looking at things. If the person you're with finds beauty in you, then you're beautiful. Simple as that.

To quote One Direction..... That's what makes you beautiful! Great lyrics, I'll post them later.

Also beauty is so much more than conventional good looks. IMO. A stunning looking person can leave me cold if I can't find any inner beauty in them. And inner beauty encompasses many things. I've often expressed that I just can't 'warm to' certain people, they have no qualities whatsoever that appeal to me. I can find at least some elements of inner beauty in the majority of people though.

Here's a thought. We 'talk' to people on tibb most days and there's a fair few people here I've never seen a picture of, and yet I've established some strong bonds with over the 4 years I've been a member. I'd personally then, should I ever see a picture of them, be predisposed to find them attractive.

And the greater your own 'inner beauty' the bigger your capacity to see it in others.

..my post didn't even make sense to me..(I really shouldn't post before I fully wake up..)..but I think that people don't need anyone else to make them feel beautiful, it's all about self esteem and yeah, if you see yourself through the eyes of someone who thinks that you're beautiful, that can help but there are other ways to help with that as well...

It was a good post Ammi, it conveyed and echoed a very similar message to what I was trying to get across in my own post so as soon as I saw it I thought yep, that's spot on as well.

Well I thought I was drop-dead gorgeous circa age 13. Realized I wasn't by 14, devastated, thought I was hideous until like 2 years ago, and now I think I'm on the better-looking side. My doctor compared me to Paul Walker last time I saw him :dazzler: (my doctor is way off but w/e I'm rolling with it now)

Do you mean on the inside or outside?

I would say somewhat below average in terms of looks. So not very attractive.
