The former Manchester United youngster left Old Trafford for Upton Park in January 2012, and has been one of the shining lights in a disappointing season so far for the east Londoners.

But there have been rumours of unrest between him and manager Sam Allardyce, and Fulham were keen to take him across London.

But City are now ready to lure him back to the north-west as part of a deal that would see Joleon Lescott move in the opposite direction.
