well... i guess not near death, but i could have been very seriously injured...

I was casually driving down a main road and the weather was awful so i was keeping a decent speed, there was a car about 60 feet in front of me for the whole journey. anyway we get to a bend in the road and then she starts to slow down. I was like what the hell... and then like 1 second later she indicated to turn right at the very last minute. I slammed on my breaks and was a foot away from crashing into her.

i swore out loud and actually said "almost..." to my sister

then all of a sudden, I saw this car come from straight behind me on my left hand side. I thought he was overtaking me and then i heard a crash and realised he had skidded off the road. the guy crashed into a grassy ditch, his car was almost completely on its side and it was so scary.

i put my hazard lights on and pulled over and went to see if he was okay... he was fine, not a scratch but he must have been going about 40 - 50 mph and did an emergency stop. I dont know if his organs/neck/brain were okay but he was walking and managed to get out of his car and tried to call the police but had no signal.

so then I called the police and said no one was injured, but the car was in the ditch. the person said the police dont come out unless someone is injured!!!! i was like well his car is in the ditch, what can he do? and the guy replied, oh it's up to him to call someone to get it out...

anyway the guy who had his car in the ditch told me he had signal so he'd be okay and i drove off...

then 2 hours later i drove past again and saw his car getting pulled out of the ditch... i feel bad for leaving him now but god, i had no idea what to do hahaha

anyway yeah, if he had hit me, i have no idea what would have happened!

have you ever been in a car accident?

:o glad you're ok!

the worst i've been in was a bump when a friend was reversing down a drive and someone was coming down the road too fast

Thank goodness you're a careful driver

I don't know much about driving but it sounds like you were the proper distance and that allowed you to react, the guy behind you probably wasn't as far back as he should have been.

And my friend got rear ended by a drunken driver in broad daylight, her back was messed up for nearly a year, and she still have problems with it occasionally.

I was involved in a car crash last year.

I was making a left turn at stoplight and didn't see a car coming behind a truck and they hit me.

To make matters worse, the other person that hit me was having a Birthday and was the daughter of one more sucessful businessmen in my town. Yeah I was a mess that day after the fact. I also know the person personally and so when I see on Facebook that it's her birthday, I remember my old car and that day.

It's quite sad really.

The Speedlimit was 35, but she admitted to going a bit over that when she talked to my insurance agent and claims representative. More like alot over that since you ended up in someone else's lawn and also almost hit the stoplight pole. (I wasn't mad about that, it was my fault I started the crash, I shouldn't of turned with that truck in the way.)

I got a ticket for it as well, 189 bucks for failure to yield...yes starting an accident is called that in America.

I don't drive but before I was born my dad had a car accident while driving, with his friend in the passenger seat who died unfortunately :(. it's really put me off learning.

..I'm glad that you're ok, Caitlin and that no one else was hurt either...the roads are so wet and slippy atm and it's staggering how many people don't adjust their speed for that or drive too close to you...

The police always come out if there's a chance to arrest someone.

i ran over someone once. i had to swerve several times before i hit them

I always feel like a loser when i wait for the crosswalk signals to change, but someone else crosses the street. Then i think, well should i cross too? or should i stand my ground and follow the rules. It's very confusing for me and damaging for my self esteem!

but i feel like a badass when i cross the street and other people are waiting for the signals to change.

it's very confusing, because i've been on both sides of the situation.

Hippopotami are the perfect dull grey color to blend against the street though. They are like Cows with urban camouflage.

its a numbers game, one day the truck driver will also go before the signal has changed.

My friends at school used to tease me (well, they still do actually ) because I never cross the road until it's safe to do so, I'd never run across the road in between cars unless it was really obviously safe to do so.
