Selena Gomez spent two weeks in a rehab facility which treats young people struggling with “emotional trauma, addiction or dual diagnosis concerns.”
The 21-year-old was admitted to Dawn at The Meadows recovery centre - which treats people aged 18 to 26 years - in Arizona on January 5.
A representative for Selena – who has an off-off relationship with Justin Bieber – confirmed the report but says it was NOT related to substance abuse.
"Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse," her rep said.
Just 24 hours before Selena entered rehab Bieber posted a picture of the pair cuddling on Instagram with the caption: "Love the way you look at me."
Two weeks before making the brave decision to seek help, the Stars Dance singer canceled her tour dates in Australia.
In a cryptic statement, the former Disney star admitted she needed to "spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."
"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," the 21-year-old said at the time.
"But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."

It comes after sources in US claim Selena was urged to seek help by those close to her amid concerns her partying was getting out of control.
One source told RadarOnline.com: "Her friends and family became increasingly worried that there might be a serious problem with Selena.
“They wanted to help her and they very much encouraged her to go to rehab. Others very close to her also urged her to seek professional help."
Another added: "It's important to remember that Selena had worked in Hollywood non-stop for six years. She was exhausted.
“Selena was smart enough to understand that she needed to take control of her life.

Her first public appearance after receiving help was at Sundance Film Festival in Utah
"It just got to a point where she needed to get out of Los Angeles, get away from 'the scene' and the pressures of Hollywood, to also get away from those who had, admittedly, become a bad influence on her.
"Selena needed to take the opportunity to work on herself. She realised she needed help."
The brunette beauty is now said to be doing well. A source said: "Selena is feeling much better. She’s feeling really positive, healthy and already getting back to work."
Selena looked happy after having dinner with childhood friend and fellow star Demi Lovato at Craigs restaurant in West Hollywood on January 23.
