Canada when did you get Balls?

[Canada filed the preliminary submission last week based
on rules laid out in the UN Convention on the
Law of the Sea, which regulates
international law for the oceans.
If successful, the country will have rights
to the polar region’s resources,
which is estimated to contain
30 per cent of the world’s undiscovered
natural gas and 15 per cent of oil.]

Can't we all just peacefully agree that the USA should own the arctic? It would make things so much easier.

Why do other countries always have to make things so difficult? :conf:

Canada doesn't have a leg to stand on; Russia, Denmark and Norway all have better substantiated claims to that land from what I've read.

...says the Brit who has no claim at all to it. Easy for you to say. :nono:

Maybe you should take a look at the UK's claims to the Antarctic....you guys seem to have no problem making claims there...

Canada hasn't even been able to carry out necessary underwater surveys to map out what they claim is their land, it's ridiculous, it's just a knee jerk reaction to try and claim some Arctic land to get a slice of the natural resources drive that will no doubt start taking place soon.

They have a very rightwing/nationalist Prime Minister (Stephen Harper) right now, who is just trying to drum up nationalist support. You know how right wingers are.

Just like Margaret Thatcher over the Malvinas.

...not to mention the fact that because of climate change, there will be less ice in the future, and those waterways are opening up creating potentially very lucrative shipping routes.

But who will be governing those shipping routes? There are also very serious security issues involved with new shipping routes. I think it's obvious that the USA is best equipped to deal with these routes, and if we are going to be doing the heavy lifting on security, I think it's only fair we expect some economic benefits in return.

There is no land under the arctic. It's all ice. The more it melts the more ships can pass.

The fact that you are so apologetic proves your Canadian links. I forgive you.

But the Russians may build a Hotel
on the water
by making a land base like the arabs do
