View Full Version : Anyone been watching the new Survivor South Africa Season ?

There's been three episodes on so far and it's been OK so far. Not amaaaazzzing yet but it's starting to get interesting.
Each of the two teams has a celebrity captain (South African Rugby & Football players) but they're only there to 'coach' their teams. They also have to make choices and pick certain people for special tasks and stuff but they're not competing and can't win. They also each have a jury vote at the end.
It's pretty much the same show as the US one apart from the team coach thing though. There's immunity idols, tribals and all that stuff.
If nothing else it's something to watch while you're waiting for the new US Season to start!

I'm surprised nobody else has been watching this!
It's actually turned out to be a good season and the episodes have been uploaded every week like clockwork.
There's been a pretty interesting addition to the game format in this season (The Captains thing has developed slightly now!) and there's been some interesting characters amongst the players.
If you're stuck for something to watch i recommend giving this a go!

Yeah, i was *****ing furious when that happened!
I don't think it's against the rules on the US version either though is it ? It's been discussed on there before (about going through people's bags and stuff).
I loved what Mark did with his vote squashing power at tribal this week! I think that was the only reason that Shane pretended to be all humble with his idol. Him and Maryan were pretty much called out by their captain and mentor for being sneaky, thieving bastards!
David's an odd character too!
I loved when that woman (whose name eludes me) tried to get all forceful and high and mighty with David's idol and it backfired and blew up right in her face at tribal! Was amazing payback!!! :xyxwave:

Its against the rules. Players stole idols before on the US version and they had to return them. They never actually showed it on the show, but they talked about it in interviews.

Do you mean Zavion (not Zan) ?
I think he'll do well with votes if he makes it to the end but everyone is very aware of that so i think he's gonna' struggle to make it right to the end.
I think Buhle could possibly win it too and i definitely agree regarding Graham. He's playing a great strategic game, probably the best out of all of them!
Have you watched all of the 11 episodes that have been on so far now ?
The tribal and vote-off in episode 11 has to be one of the craziest i've seen in any Survivor season i think. The new Captain's torch of power which pretty much allows them grant someone of their choice immunity at tribal was a nice extra i think and i was pleasantly surprised at the choice Mark made of who to use it on too.
I'm definitely surprised by this version and how much i'm enjoying it!

I caught up on all 11 episodes last week. Yeah, I meant Zavion.
One thing that confused me though. Did Shane really lose his second idol? I know he told the girl later on in the show he lied about someone taking it. But if he had it why didn't he gave it to her after the second vote? That part was confusing to me.
Shane's plan would have worked if David hadn't flipped or if Mark would have cancelled one of Marian's votes.

I'm a bit confused about the Shane Idol thing too. I think he made the whole thing up so he could keep both of them for himself.
I think he only took one idol to tribal though and he only tried to give it to Marian because Mark's little speech about honesty and not liking certain things he'd seen them do made him feel like he'd blown his chances so he thought he could re-gain a bit of credibility...............i think.
No sign of episode 12 yet but it should be up anytime i hope!

I watched episode 13 last night and it was pretty good again. Marian returned for tribal (as she's the first jury member) and she scrubs up surprisingly well. Although i hated her sometimes in the game i can't help liking her for some unknown reason.

I caught up to Episode 12 and I only started watching on Monday!
If I was Solly/Buhle/Vel, I would've voted off Marion and Shane (or simply just two from the Utara alliance) and then at F9 they could've joined forces with the remaining two outcasts and have majority over the selatan alliance of 4, and then at F5 they would outnumber the two outcasts 3v2. Unfortunately they don't seem to be thinking that far ahead and are settling for jury at the moment.

Ok so I've caught up on all the episodes and the only people left that I'm rooting for are Buhle and Altaar. I find this new male alliance to be pretty awful and frustrating to watch. I'm surprised Buhle is the last woman standing, but then again she is quite weak so she isn't seen as a major threat.
I can't stand anyone in the new male alliance. I hope Zavion is the one they were plotting against in next weeks preview... Him and Shane are so annoying.

It's one woman and 6 men. But it's basically 5 guys vs this one guy and this one woman, but the two outcasts don't realise that the 5 guys are in an alliance.

David is well amusing. He loves his dramatic one-liners and such like!!!
As every episode passes he increases his tagged-on smatterings of Afrikaans rantings on the end of lines of English. Probaly swearing in Afrikaans!
I recognized a few of the words he's used but it's been a loooooong time since i lived in South Africa so most of them are foreign to me.
I was laughing hard in the episode where they won the poolside barbeque (courtesy of 'Hunters Dry'!) and they went crazy!!!
They called it a Braai though (pronounced 'Bri' or 'Bry') which is basically the number one Afrikaans leisure activity. It's basically their version of a BBQ but much more 'manly' and South African with large slabs of t-bone steak, chops and Boerewors (a large SA Sausage containing mostly beef) and various other things thrown on and it's usually cooked to within an inch of its life! Brings back great memories for me.........gathered around the pool with the Braai blazing, smell of MEAT in the air and the sun blazing down! Those were the days!!!

Yay @ Sivu having an idol. Hope it doesn't get stolen before the next TC, since that's the last time an idol can be played. I hope he uses it to better himself and Buhle in the game (getting rid of Zavion or Graham would be the best choice). I'm glad Altaaf's gone, but would've preferred it to be Zavion.
Rooting for Buhle, Sivu and David. I just don't want Zavion or Graham to win (which I don't think they will since the jury doesn't seem to like them that much).

I think the defining moment in the game for him (when the others got worried by him) was when he carried Solly like a backpack in that one challenge.

I was intrigued by the clip of next week's episode though where David and someone else where discussing the fact that Zavion has been 'cheating' :conf:
Not really sure how you can cheat at Survivor but if it screws his game up it'll be great!
I'm liking Sivu more with every episode. He seems like a very sincere and good guy. It was great to see how he was with his mother too.
I like Buhle a lot too and David deserves major props just for lasting this long when it looked like he was screwed from the very first episode. He's outlasted a lot of the people who were calling him a terrible player (Shane in particular).

Amazing wasn't it!!!!!
I loved how well Sivu kept the bluff going perfectly right up until the last second, even down to the fighting back the tears during tribal.
Zavion had been soooooo *****ing condescending throughout the whole episode to Sivu too. It just made it all the better wen Sivu whipped out the idol. The majority alliance looked absolutely stunned!!!!:laugh3:
Even though Zavion made a huge effort to come across like a gent and take it really well he was just his usual, over the top self. His "oh well done....just brilliant Sivu...etc." even came across as him being patronizing.
He needed to go more than anyone 'cause his size and athleticism was just giving him too much of an advantage in the challenges. It's nice now that there's two two person alliances that are pretty well matched and really any one of them could win.
I'd LOVE to see Sivu win though. He just seems like an extremely genuine and humble guy and it sounds like he hasn't had an easy life. He's from a shanty township just outside Capetown called Khayelitsha. It's basically thrown together shacks with no proper water or power supplies. Here's a couple of pics of the place;
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v327/JTM45/KhayelitshaTownshipCapeTownSA-1_zpsea2a5105.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v327/JTM45/KhayelitshaTownshipCapeTownSA-2_zps545af45e.jpg
There's over a million people living there and over 25% of the adult population has AIDS. For Sivu to have grown up there and now he's studying to become a Professor in Astrophysics is pretty amazing in itself!
I'd actually be OK with any of the final 4 winning. I've even grown to quite like David. He's a strange little man but he seems quite decent in his own way.

Oh boys!!!!!
Yet another absolutely cracking episode tonight!!!! I haven't quite finished it but i needed a 2 minute breather cause things got a bit stressful and nail-bitey for me.:worry:
So Big - It looks like this is pretty much the final episode with next week's episode being (probably) a studio vote count and reunion episode combined by the looks, and the final Jury statements and questions are put to the final three competitors by the looks of it, which it looks like are about to happen right now during the last 15 mins of this episode.(i know you were asking about the number in the final facing the Jury last week)
I'll go back and watch the last 15 minutes of the episode now but i won't put any spoilers here just in case you guys haven't watched it yet.
EDIT; I just finished the last 15 mins of the episode and i was incorrect in my earlier assumption. The Jury questions and Final 3's statements weren't on this episode. The game, as such, is over with the Final 3 now ready to face the Jury next week and then the vote followed by the results and then the reunion....i think!
End of tonight's episode was just a bit of a look back at the three finalists and the game in general. Great episode overall though, and no Tony type Clowns to spoil my viewing pleasure either!:joker:
This, for me at least, has been so much more enjoyable than Survivor Cagayan this year! It's such a breath of fresh air to watch a whole Season of Survivor without a single irritating American to be seen! I've enjoyed these contestants so much more.

Another brilliant episode. I don't like how Sivu is getting too cocky now, I wish Buhle's plan to blindside him would've worked since it would've guaranteed Buhle the win. I don't see the logic in Graham voting David out, but whatever.
I'm really hoping Buhle wins. It would be a great story to go from being voted weakest of the tribe to becoming the ultimate survivor. If not her, then Sivu. But I really hope he doesn't play the sympathy card in the final TC since I kinda agreed what Graham was saying in a sense that Sivu hadnt done as much as Graham up until playing his idol at F5.

I don't think Sivu's getting cocky at all!:nono:
I thought what Buhle did (or tried to do) was sly as ***** and Sivu still pulled it out of the bag even though he wasn't very good at starting fires.
I also think Buhle has done herself no favors with the Jury by trying that move. Most (actually all i think) of the jury love Sivu and they were overjoyed when he survived that attempted coup!
Buhle's barely made a move all season and the first time she tries to make a move it's against the one person who's had her back all the way through the game. I'll be surprised if she gets a single jury vote after that shiz!
I think Sivu's got it in the bag!!!!

Graham controlled the game from start to finish and he was well liked. He deserved it.
Not taking David to the end was also a very smart move on his part. David was always going to vote for him and Sivu would have voted for Buhle. Sivu and Buhlee also took votes away from each other.

Graham was frankly a personality-free zone. While in a way I don't mind him winning it was a bit predictable, him and Zavion pretty much had the edit of a winner. Sivu would have been more a surprise and an underdog winner and so more interesting. And, as was said, Graham's vote to tie and let Sivu make fire was quite strange. Not sure how the woman in the final got that many votes.
Actually the edit before tribals rarely left much suspense for the viewer. I also wish both idols had been played.
Overall I didn't like the Captains that much, having that influence even though they couldn't really know what was happening in both tribes as well as anything post-merge was strange. And I'm not sure how well they understood the game either, particularly that Mark Fish guy. And one ends up winning half a million as well?? It was obvious who was winning that anyway, the guy got music whenever he made a speech.
Enjoyable though, if there's an Allstars or Allstar/newbie mix hopefully some from this come back. First season I've seen of the SA version.

Does anyone know if there's a Survivor SA new Season on in 2015 ?
I had a look around the internets but couldn't find anything. Sad after last year's being so good and it was pretty popular.
It had already well started by this time last year so things aren't looking promising for a 2015 SSA.

I've searched high and low but can't find anything about it so it's looking doubtful sadly. :(
I'm friends with Marian on Facebook so i'll have to ask her and find out for sure.
