Why is the title of this thread "older couple"? They are not old!

Why is it a sign of the times? I'm sure this kind of thing will have been going on for decades and decades.

Older couple?

Marla Everett, 32,
and Matthew Cartwright, 39

Wtf?

But eurgh that house is disgusting, not sure jail time is suitable for this though? remove the kids and give the parents some kind of community work but jail seems a bit harsh when there is worse criminals getting away with just community service and fines..

Ah actually after reading the entire article they probably do deserve the jail, seems they have been done with cruelty too.

What the bloody hell has this got to do with labour...

The people are disgusting pigs. There will be disgusting pigs everywhere regardless of if labour existed or not

Those poor lads, Well done the concerned woman who could have saved that lads life. I'm a bit conflicted on the jail time as I would have thought being in foster care would be more traumatic for the boys, especially if they have to be separated.
Detox, close supervision and support might have been more helpful for the family?

Maybe that close supervision
could not get funding,

It would cost more for the court case and to jail 2 people for over a year I would have thought.

Their children are aged 3, 2 and 1. In other words, they were all born after the Tory government came into power. A government which has gleefully watched the rich-poor divide widen and has made it exponentially harder for adults have any hope of improvement via access training or education, by introducing punitive measures to force them into permanent menial work. A government who may as well have "know your place and live with it" as its party slogan, and has encouraged the middle and skilled working classes to belittle, humiliate and demonize anyone who is struggling.

And you want to talk about why people are "giving up" hope. Sigh.

Yup. Tip of the iceberg and that. Can't stand people always banging on about how crap things are now when chances are these things were a lot worse.

Parents creating filthy conditions for the whole family has always been around and will always be around.
