Has anyone ever transferred from one university to another? Or do you know someone who has? I'm currently contemplating transferring from my school here in the United States to one back in the UK as it's really just too far away from home. Could anyone give me any advice on this? Thanks, much appreciated :)

My brothers friend has, he's still there until June. Apparently it's a great experience! Do it!

Won't transferring from US to a UK uni be a nightmare in terms of finance? And it will be different in terms of the course and how its graded and stuff?

I know a couple of people who have transferred but between UK unis and early on in their degree

It's not a "rigid" process, there's a lot of room for negotiation when it comes to all University situations. Your first step would be contacting admissions of the University you want to go to, or perhaps even the head of faculty specifically for the course you want to be on, and explain your situation. Like I said there are no hard and fast "rules", some universities will be open to it and others harder to convince. There also might be differences between various faculties within one uni, and also you'll face less resistance for under-subscribed courses and more if it's one that has packed full lectures already. And like I said - you might need to flex your negotiating muscles to show them you're serious and committed .

Either way, I'd also have a transcript of your completed classes and course description documents for those classes available to send, as they'll need those when considering any transfer of course credit.

Well in terms of finance it'd actually be a great save for me. My school tuition is currently approximately $60,000+ whereas a school in the UK would range approximately around $15000 a year (that's a guess converted from pounds). But yeah the course grading and stuff is what i'm worried about, especially because i'm hoping to transfer as a second year student for the September 2014 season.

I'm in my second year here at university, but i'm hoping to transfer in again at the second year point in the psychology department.

Thanks so much for your feedback, sir! Yeah this is what i'm coming across having contacted a few schools now. It all seems quite department based and pretty arbitrary which is both worrying and positive in terms of admissions. I really want to go to Cardiff though because i'd feel most at home there, so that's what i'm pushing for at the moment, and the psychology office admissions there seemed pretty open to negotiations which was a pleasant surprise!

No idea about transferring from outside the UK Raph but the advice you have had so far is good.

This looks like a decent site.

I know it is a waste of the year you have already done, but might you be better starting from scratch ie applying again for first year? as others have said it is probably best to pinpoint the Uni you would like to attend and ring them directly and get it in writing what you need to transfer (if you can!).

My nephew just transferred from the american academy of dramatic arts back to a Scottish university, where he will finish his term.

I don't really have any advice but everything seemed to go smoothly for him.

Good luck.

Okay, do you know what year they were in when they transferred and what UK year they ended up entering into?

:p I submitted my forms earlier today. It's the asssociate school in the UK of my school here so it was the easiest option, so I most probably will be going there for the next year now :p

That's really good to hear! I'm hearing a lot of good things about the school!

Also If you do go, tell me what accommodation you've picked

It's such a great place though, especially in the summer. The Quay has some great bars in summer/when warm plus the amazing bar in the centre called The Impy.
