rescuing a group of illegal miners trapped
in an abandoned gold mine shaft
near Benoni, Johannesburg.
Werner Vermaak of emergency services
ER24 said they are in touch with a group
of about 30 miners who became trapped
by fallen rocks below the surface.
"They say there are approximately 30
people trapped towards the top of
the old shaft," he said. "It's an
abandoned mine shaft in the middle
of the public veld (open fields) ... it was
