View Full Version : Do Journalists/Paparazzi ever know when to stop?
There was an article I happened upon in the daily mail, talking about Russell Crowe breaking down in tears over the news of a friend of his (Charlotte Dawson a TV personality) recent departure from this world.
On this article were a couple of photographs of him with his kids, looking pretty distraught over the news and it made me think, At what point did whoever took those photo's think to themselves "ah maybe I should just leave them be and let them grieve"? Is it something that you would need to see when reading the article or does it bother you a little that they were there?
What do you think?

It takes a certain kind of person to do the job that they do, that's for sure because no most of them don't know when to stop, they take the freedom of media description to a whole new level and coming to this opinion is actually through a personal experience so I can't begin to imagine how hounded some celebs feel, but then there are others that use the media for their own means, through staged pap photos etc it's free publicity isn't it?
I suppose it all comes down to how interested the public are about celebs too, they buy up all the papers, magazines and pay the paps wages because they want to know every little detail about celebs, I personally don't see the point in wanting to know every little thing about them, but that's just me, so the paps and journo's will continue to be like vultures for as long as there is people to purchase whatever snaps/info they get.

Yeah that's what I meant by it takes a certain type to do that work, it's not something I would ever be able to do either and I'm not condoning violence at all but I can understand to a point why some of these celebs have struck out at them in the past.
I agree with everything you've all said but I was thinking, who actually wants to see these photo's? For me the article would be a lot better without 8 or 9 spreads of him looking forlorn.
Am I partly responsible for coming across the article and giving it a hit?
Having said that the comments underneath the article are a little heartwarming. Will there ever be a tipping point where people have had enough? I thought it was going to happen when the Sun (I think?) made that disgusting headline about Roy Hodgson but it never did come about.

The paps need to back off a bit from their intrusion into the personal lives of people,do we really need to see the wardrobe malfunctions /up skirt shots,accompanied by lewd remarks,do we need to see a celebrity grieving or having dinner with someone,better if they just stuck to taking pics that people are comfortable with,I'de have to slap someone who shoved a camera or microphone in my face.

I suppose that's the point.... there's a market for this stuff, supply and demand.
People buy mags with pics of distraught celebs in, it's voyeurism.

I have no problems with Paps I think they do a job that celebrities need to be done. I think these picture are a step too far but many pap shots are manufactured by the celebs publicist and themselves. I dont like the celebs who use the paps when they need them and then cry outrage when they feel their space has been invaded. They cant have it both ways.
I guess whoever took these photo's would argue that if he/she didn't take them somebody else would in his/her stead.

Disgusting people, usually arrogant and obnoxious and generally vile. I actually wish a load of celebrities would get together and follow some paps back to their houses, take pictures of them and their kids, whilst they're taking the bins out, whilst they're having a sh*t, asking them about whether they've been ****ing their next door neighbour behind their wife's back, ruining their lives, making them miserable, driving them to emotional breakdowns and isolation. How about people ruin their lives just like they deserve, maybe they'd back the ****** off.
The reason people are interested in this crap is because the tabloids started printing it, people aren't born with an undying interest in finding out what Amy Childs had for lunch and where she was yesterday, it's just in the papers so much that people have become conditioned to it.
Such personal intrusion should be illegal.

Maybe but tbh when I made this subject I thought I was going to get battered from pillar to post because it was a big brother forum and I (rightly or wrongly) assumed most people had a huge interest in what celebs got up to.
I don't think anybody has commented yet saying that this is something they are happy to see, I think the vast majority of people would veer on the side of "just leave them be, he made a comment on twitter just go with that" or something along those lines. To me that suggests that media outlets have took it upon themselves to do things like this and we as people have had plenty of opportunities over various incidents to tell them what we think of it but we haven't.
..I do agree that there is supply and demand for celebrity photos and an insight into their lives etc and I agree with Girth about 'celebs' who court publicity and then maybe moan about the paparazzi when they're court off guard and a photo is published that they don't approve of..you can't have it both ways..but to me there is a difference between 'celebs' who have no particular talent but just want to be famous for being famous and actors/musicians etc who get fame because they excel at what they do professionally or happen to have commercial success...in the case of the OP and Russell Crowe, I can't see that he has really looked for media attention in his private life, in fact he's been open about his contempt for it...so I think that is a step too far and in general cases of famous people grieving, they should be given privacy....but then people must read these things/want to see these things so it will carry on happening...

It's not hard to not be followed by the paparazzi. It's only people that seek out the paparazzi that have a problem with the paparazzi.
How often do you see George Clooney or Tom Cruise having run in's with the aparazzi and they are the biggest stars alive, yet it's always the B-list band C-list celebs that seem to have a problem with the paps. Why is that? It's cause they want it, they invite it, they go to the restaurants and events they know alas will be at.
It's not hard to avoid parazzi. If you are that rich, you don't need to live in LA or New York, if you don't want the attention then why are you living in those cities and eating at the most expensive restaurants?
Johnny Depp never has issues with the paparazzi, why do you think that is?
It's never the A-list that has a problem with the parazzi, it's always the C-list that want to pretend they hate the paparazzi's while having their publicist call the paparazzi to tell them where they will be.
