we need this useless government to command

we are all feeling the rip

so the poor are refused a holiday trip
the rich carry on and bathe in snobbery.

just because you earn less you are no fake

i hear there is a online petition
will i help or smudge
raising awareness is my only condition
if i can contribute change there will be no grudge.

that is unless you are being deliberately sinister
and you only want exclusive rich people in the " Tropicana" club.



(yes i have used George in yet one more poem, but no i will not try and get this to him, and i will say sorry if he feels i am disrespecting his talent, this is not the case and i am just bringing in today's news with one of his songs he did. this aside i really feel the people behind this petition have a justified case.and i have tried my hardest to get this to them out of respect.the question is - will the PM give us cheaper holidays ?

I think the Govt needs to rule on this one, the only fair way to solve this I think is for the Govt to say to Holiday Companies yes you have a guaranteed demand for holidays due holiday half terms BUT you cannot charge more than 15% on top of the price for non half term weeks (either side of the half term week).

That way they still make a bit of extra money as demand is high BUT not a license to charge 50% or higher on top of normal rates.

Well then I'm a **** parent.... I feel the companies shouldn't be so exploitative of families, and incidentally single parent families who get a bad deal when it comes to hols as everything is always based on two adults.

Either allow people to take their kids away during term time, or make teachers take INSET days during their long, loooooong holidays. Seems a bit inconsistent to me to criticise parents for kids missing school in term time, only for teachers to take a day off for training when they only work 36 weeks out of 52.

It is blind; not ALL rules are made for good reasons. Some rules are made by idiots, for stupid reasons.

The "rules" for whether or not a child can reasonably miss school should be by and large down to the parents and whether or not they believe their child is likely to fall behind if they miss a week or two of school. Not that this is usually late in the term towards summer when the work is far less involved anyway.

Regardless; I appreciate that some slower learners ARE likely to fall behind and then it might be appropriate for the school to step in, IF that specific child will be significantly disadvantaged.

In short; struggling kids probably will struggle to catch up. Bright kids will have absolutely no problem catching up. If there isn't an actual problem, then it should be entirely the parent's decision to take their child out of school.

I hate the automatic assumption that the government or the education system "knows best" for children, beyond their own parents. Whilst this is doubtless true in MANY cases (because it's a fact that less intelligent children are likely to have less intelligent parents, a bit of a catch 22 when it comes to being able to make a good decision in a situation like this) that absolutely does not justify tarring all parents with the same brush by law and making 100% school attendance mandatory, even when a break of a week or two would have zero impact on education.

This country is edging ever close to a culture where children are raised by "childcare professionals" from birth - nursery before they can even talk, straight to pre-school, straight to school 5 days a week - whilst their parents work every hour of the day. Passing off the entirety of their child's education and upbringing to "the authorities", and increasingly even their babies from 6 months into minimum-wage-staffed baby farms. It's a mess. The school system should be there to provide a SERVICE to me, as a tax-paying parent, to provide a passable level of basic education (as that's all kids really get at primary schools and most high schools). I'll take care of the rest. They are not my child's guardians.
