You have just brought a piece of land to build your own house, the problem is it has a 150 year old oak tree right in the spot where your house will be!

you have found out the tree has a preservation order on it and it cant be cut down, this will make the piece of land worthless and you wont be able to build your house on it.

but no one knows that you know about the preservation order, so you could get it cut down, you would be fined but it would be a small price considering what you will have lost if you leave the tree standing,

so do you cut down a tree that has stood for a 150 years and build your home or be left with some where to walk the dog?

Hmm maybe I can build my house around the tree and leave it at the centre of a nice courtyard :think:

Though really if the fine wasn't that big I could cut down the tree without too many qualms about it, 150 isn't that old for a tree anyway really

Hardly a dilemma Sheriff when you can be enjoying one of these;

You would be informed of the fact that the tree had a preservation order on it when contracts were signed.

No way could I cut down a tree that old.
It broke my heart when my dad had 3 oak trees taken down that his father had planted many moons before.

I would have done my research before buying and found out about the tree.

Problem avoided.

Might be like Glengarry Glen Ross where you get conned into buying a worthless piece of crap land after they advertise it to you as the opportunity of a lifetime dream plot

No need to be nasty just because you were daft enough to buy land with a big old tree in the middle of it :smug:

I'd have my architect some up with a design that wouldn't disturb the tree but incorporate it into the garden.
