View Full Version : Closing Account For Good?

Not doing this, but was just wondering.
There are posts and users on here that are long gone from the forum.
Would it not help servers if their accounts and posts were deleted?
I know when I close my account somewhere I like to know that there is no trace of me left behind.
If not for servers or to clean up the site, but just for privacy issues?
Just wondering.

Cause there seems ot be posts on here from people who aren't still here.
And if so, how d'you delete it?
Glenn.

I think it'd be good if admin got rid of all the banned multi's, if anything for the usernames?
But yeah, I think it'd help with the server too

Oh yeah, I misread that.
Then surely, that should be an option, no?

your history belongs to us all. you can't delete it.
you spoke to us, and we heard it, so it belongs to us.

It's not that though.
It's not something I was even considering.
But a friend was telling me how they'd got rid of everything but Twitter because they seriously want to pursue a career in politics and even just silly things like forums he went on could be bought up in the future.
I know that's over the top and silly.
But I do think everyone should have the option to delete an account if they choose.
Or at least contact an admin to do so.

did you ask him what he said on the forums that he thinks might jeopardize his future? sounds juicy.

Sadly not.
But I don't think he meant anything 'juicy'.
Just silly opinions, pictures etc...

What are the admin/mods stance on this?
Kate!

You could ask one of them?

give him a link to "the mods".

If a member has over 100 posts its seriously hard to delete all trace of them
You also have to consider we would have to physically search for any posts you have made that have been quoted and delete them too..and basically a load of threads would end up not making sense with loads of posts randomly removed from them.
I think this is why admin dont delete accounts on request.

yea, why should the mods have to do it, can't you go back and delete your own posts?
Does that get rid of everything though?

We hardly ever delete all trace of a member

Doesn't make one bit of difference to the server and if you saw the list of multi/permabanned spammers that would have to be waded through to split them all up then you wouldn't be saying that about the usernames

It's in the forum rules/sign up that nothing you post on here is private, the forum is a public forum so if people don't want things that they post seen then they probably shouldn't be posting them in the first place.
We do delete the odd post here and there for members in certain circumstances.
Vicky.

We do however sometimes, delete specific threads or posts with your personal details in..
Its unlikely anyone would ever find you unless you have your full name for your username or something.
