BB5 - overrated?

I love the series and some of the housemates but it's often described as the most epic series ever, when a lot of the time post fight night there are episodes where hardly anything happens?

I prefer 6 and 7 and would group it with the next lot of 10 and 13 somewhere, so it's top 5 but I think it's the least entertaining of the 'golden years' 5, 6 & 7.

Some of the housemates though - Nadia, Michelle and the hilarious and underrated Ahmed and Shell :love: are easily top 20.

Victor might just be the best male HM of all-time. And IDC what you say, without Victor, UBB would've been 100x worse.

BB5 is great but Shell was really annoying and was responsible for Victor leaving over Jason, so why anyone classes her as an 'underrated housemate' is beyond me.

I'm watching BB5 right now after recently watching BB7 from start to finish (I'd seen the first half of BB7 several times but always struggled to finish the last few weeks and wanted to get some closure at last) and I was really looking forward to watching BB5 properly after only watching the first 20 or so episodes on youtube a few years ago, but I actually do feel that it is a bit overrated. It was probably amazing when it first aired but I think some of the later seasons like 6, 7 (I know it gets very boring at points but so does BB5 and I'm only about 4 weeks into it...) and even arguably 9 were more entertaining.

I'm up to Vanessa's eviction and I think part of why I've struggled to maintain interest is that 28 episodes in, this was the first 'real' eviction of the series. Obviously Kitten was thrown out and there was the fake Emma/Michelle eviction, but I found myself desperately wanting someone to be evicted just so that it might change things up a bit.

Does it get better from here? Hopefully there'll be the regular evictions/nominations every week format from this point onward and I'll find it more gripping.

I do really like some of the housemates (Victor, Shell, Ahmed especially) and there are some great moments but so many episodes I have really struggled to watch all the way through. Also I find Nadia not that likable and don't really get how she won, though I guess I could say the same for winners of other series. And Marco is ridiculously annoying, and not even in an entertaining way.

I kind of want to finish this series but compared to BB6 (easily the best series ever imo) and BB7 it just doesn't grip me as much as I thought it would.

i think "fight night" is overrated, to me the best moment from BB5 was when Ahmed tried to stage a coup against Michelle during the military theme'd task. that was hilarious.

No way. bb5 is by far and away the best series. It blows every other series out of water, perfect cast. It shouldn't even be disputed imo. Bb7 was too long, bb3 had pointless hms like lee and sophie.

Amazing cast, losing luggage on night 1, food fights, prize money drop after the biggest character in the first week kitten caused trouble, then was ejected after a few days but after she left the show got better, naked rows, ahmed's bonkers A-H - M-E -D night type rap, his plate smashing, his intelligent, rows with Marco over homosexuality v racism, Nadia's cig rants, Ahmed's coo in army task, brilliant factions eg lipstick bitches v jungle cats, the bedsit, a transexual secret, mild mannered shell ended up being a trashy nude lawn mower and swearing, the wedding, michelle's pie jesu singing, jason's creepy grooming and bodybuilding, slobby kissing Vanessa, Stuart being stalked by Michelle, his cowboy hat meltdown, sex under table, Victor in DR eg lay some pipe, shock as ace Victor going from being safe to being evicted due to Shell's white girl mascara running tears, Nadia's triumphant win

Watched it on YouTube, okay so Fight Night was really good. Marco was such an awful housemate, he could start arguments but not finish them. Right back on launch night though Stuart made a homophobic remark to Marco indirectly on live TV, I'm surprised he never got punished for it. Basically Stuart came in and was over-whelmed by Marco's mannerisms and then I think Ahmed said 'Oh yeah we're all male' and then Stuart shifted his eyes and said 'That's debatable at the moment.' Something that bothered me from launch night.

Anyway, the only decent female HMs were Michelle and Emma. Kitten was unbearable, she kind of came in and decided she wanted to rebel against Big Brother, why audition for the show then? Shell was boring and Vanessa was bland, even with her arguments. I loved Nadia, I wished she did more though. I didn't like Stuart, Jason and Victor were awesome, Daniel and Ahmed were boring and Marco was really two-faced and acted like he was a bitch when he couldn't deliver face to face. Running off from Stuart on fight night, letting Nadia and Emma defend him and then not defending them afterwards. Why was Emma ejected fgs and not Jason or Marco?

You've got to remember that watching it for the first time 10 years later only highlights shows on youtube is different.

At the time we had 24/7 live feed so a couple of quiet highlights shows was nothing.

Also, "quiet" highlights shows are underrated. :hmph:

And for a 13 week series BB7 got duller faster and for longer in my opinion.

I think the problem with it is that the first 3 weeks are the most entertaining so then after the amazing fight night there's nothing to really look forward to, I think 6 and 7 are better though.

But the BB5 Housemates saved Big Brother when you think about it, Because if they had 2 BB4's in a row they might have cancelled the show!

I don't really like the term 'overrated', as it usually equals 'I don't like it but most people do'.

I don't think BB5 is overrated. It's an amazing series, and deserves all the love it gets. Granted, I think both BB6 and BB7 are better than BB5, IMO. With BB6 being my favorite series. But that's not to say, I didn't enjoy BB5.

BB5 was a massive game-changer, and gave us the format of the show that we all know and love. Not to mention, kick started the golden era of the show - not only for BB but also CBB.

Apart from Shell, Stuart, and Vanessa, everybody contributed to the series to a degree.

Admittedly I do think week 1 & week 10 are bad weeks though, because Kitten takes too much screentime in week 1 that I felt like I couldn't get to know the other Housemates very well, and week 10 is when most of the great contestants have already gone, and Nadia looking bored out of her mind because she's left with the weak lot.
