Apparently Assassin's Creed V is set to be revealed pretty soon, word has it that it will be set in 19th Century London. This picture was apparently taken in Ubisoft's offices.

They've spent too much time developing the role of ships for them to just drop it, so I think naval battles are going to be involved for at least the next couple of versions. Especially if it is in London, as England had the most powerful navy at that time, and there will possibly be missions to fend off the French trying to cross the channel.
I hope they go for another Ezio-type character who actually grows and develops with the next couple of games, and not a connor.

I agree, but I hope there is still London in the game, we've not really been in any large powerful cities since Assassin's Creed II, I kinda miss being in the large cities. Edward was quite a good protagonist, but I hope the next one becomes an Assassin a bit earlier.

I agree London would be great, especially setting the waypoint on big Ben. Starting off as a Dickensian street urchin, and unknowingly pickpocketing a templar could get the protagonist into danger, and that's how he could get involved with the assassins.
Completely agree about Edward, by the time he became an assassin, you'd already been playing as an assassin for most of the game already. The narrow streets and tall buildings of that Era would be perfectly suited.

No way in a million years is that going to be in game. It'll be Watch Dogs all over again.
Ubisoft always do it. That and the fact I'm not sure these consoles could run an open world game looking like that. Even if Ubisoft were to use all the power available. Certainly not this early into the new generation anyway.

Scarlett.

The single player footage later on was good too, I'm guessing that it will be less fluid/polished looking in the final version, that's what I'm gonna tell myself with every Ubi game from now on, lol.
Apparently though, they've revamped the free running and combat too, you can no longer take on endless hordes of enemies. I'm hoping this is the AC that brings the franchise back to the AC2 days.

As much as Ubisoft are wank developers, the CPUs in both these consoles are woefully poor by modern day standards.
Development on the game started was it four years ago? That means it was began on a PC, Ubisoft probably expected better CPUs and were probably left dumbfounded at what these consoles actually have.
However, with that said, it was still dumb of Ubisoft to actually champion the AI despite quite clearly knowing the CPUs aren't upto it. Also it's not running too great on PCs so Ubisoft expecting consoles to run it fine is just...
Also, AC has always ran like dog crap. The yearly releases are probably the reason why.
They're crap developers really. The CPUs haven't helped them, but for it to be crap on PC is pretty darn pathetic.

So it's not just the terrible coding that makes this game bad
I tried to open a treasure chest, but was told I needed the Assassin’s Creed companion app to open it, with no additional information or context.
I tried to open another treasure chest, and was told I needed to sign up for Assassin’s Creed Initiates to open it.
When I paused the game, the second option in the pause menu is an eStore that lets you spend real money on time-saving boosts, bonus in-game currency, and so-on.
This is a $60 video game set in revolutionary Paris that continually spams you to sign up for Ubisoft services via locked-away in-game content.
This is a $60 video game that paces out unlockables and upgrades at the exact speed that Ubisoft wanted, but then offers to sell you “time savers.”

Lol, Ubi'. Seems like it might be better to play offline.
I don't really see it ever running that well. One because AC never runs well and two it appears to be CPU intensive.
My mum pre-ordered this, she's loved every single one.. Wonder if she'll like this one!
She probably will. The AC series has generally been up and down for a lot of people, myself included, but if she's liked them all then she'll probably like this one. There's also a spin off called AC 3: Liberation which is on the PS3/360 which would probably interest her, if she hasn't played it already.

The One beats the PS4, although not by much. Seems the faster CPU has managed to help... a bit... what with the ridiculous, and needless, number of NPCs.
Some think this confirms MS paid. :joker: Paying for 5 extra frames makes so much sense. More like the One was the lead platform and got the better end of what is still horrible optimisation.
Scarlett.
12-11-2014, 08:08 PM
It might be better, but its still bad, there's no excuse for this game not hitting 30fps. Ubi's obsession with NPCs is dumb, it was never an issue in the other AC games.

Wait what? It can't hit 30? I assumed the FPS troubles meant it couldn't hit and stay at 60  considering what developers manage to squeeze out of consoles, they sure are failing hard this generation. I remember Oblivion, Dead Rising, Gears of War etc. running beautifully and they were basically launch titles, this generation nobody is hitting 30fps, crazy! Glad I stuck to PC until this gen manages to sort itself out.

Unity demands a lot, though. A ridiculous amount of NPCs expected to be successful on consoles what strengths are the GPUs. The CPUs are weak basically and they're expecting far too much from them. Ubi' seemed to just big up the number of NPCs despite the fact they knew the CPUs aren't upto it.
Dead Rising had screen tear issues if I'm not mistaken. I don't think it ran all that well if I remember correctly. It's also worth noting that the PS3 and 360 were quite powerful at the time of their release. The 360 actually matched upto PCs back at that time. The PS3 was powerful, but was a bitch to program for. Whereas technology has advanced so much since then that these consoles are some way behind.
I think the majority of games are 30FPS this gen. At least on the PS4. I could be mistaken, though. Perhaps not consistently, but mainly 30FPS.
Scarlett.
12-11-2014, 09:26 PM
28 PS4 games (not including simple indie games like FLOWer) run at 60fps, so its not a minority. To be honest, its due to some devs using the console's power for more visual effects, rather than for framerate, since console users aren't as picky about 60fps.
Ryan57
12-11-2014, 11:59 PM
Not sure we'll ever see 60FPS this gen. It's much easier to market stunning graphics than a scaled back game, graphically, that runs at 60FPS.
Scarlett.
13-11-2014, 12:23 AM
Definately, people who are tuned into the gaming world will know, but for the majority of people, the extra graphical effects will be more noticeable than more frames.
Ryan57
13-11-2014, 12:25 AM
There's too much fuss over it anyway, imo. I understand it but I saw someone on GAF say he's not getting Bloodborne because it's only 30 FPS. :smug:
That's just OTT.
Scarlett.
13-11-2014, 01:12 AM
Indeed, 60fps is a nice extra, but it's not make or break for me, lol.
Creggle
13-11-2014, 01:16 AM
I think framerate is really only important on PC as you are close to the screen and mouse is much more direct and precise, so you can really feel the low frames. On console though you use a pad and are quite far away from screen, so it wouldn't be as noticeable.

Aye, pretty much sums it up, these new consoles are much further behind than I'd of liked, wanted them to at least match PCs. You'd be surprised how much frames you could get from dropping a few settings like LOD distance though, which you wouldn't notice if you were far from the screen. I think 40fps is a pretty solid benchmark, not sure why everybody aims for 30-60-120-240 etc, I know it's to sync with refresh rates of televisions but consoles rarely suffer from screen tearing.
Ryan57
13-11-2014, 01:26 PM
This gen I can see why they went the route they did. Despite the PS4 outselling the One, MS are still making profit. Both have from day one if I'm not mistaken.
Sony learnt the hard way. A powerful console would of been costly, like the PS3 was, and that was basically a failure for them. Sony put a shed load into the Cell last gen and it was basically a failure. They just couldn't afford it again.
Since then there's been economy troubles so another powerful, but expensive, system wouldn't of taken off.
This gen will probably return to the prior days of five years before another console releases.
Creggle
13-11-2014, 03:36 PM
Or maybe we'll see upgradable systems this gen? I think it is about time they did this, and put graphical presets in console games. Nothing fiddly but 'high medium low' for each system 'type' a console has with details on the fps each preset has based on the upgrade 'tier' your console uses.
Niall

It'd alienate percentages of the market. The benefits of consoles would be somewhat lost as well. When you buy consoles you're safe in the knowledge that every game you buy for it is going to run. It'd also make it unfair in terms of people not always being on level playing fields online.

If you're referring to the frame rate alone then lot's are having it fluctuate. The Digital Foundry video shows the frame rate often varying. There's times when it's at the low 20s and high teens. There's also the video of it on the One where the game just completely stops.
