One of best Politicians of his time (or any time) a man of integrity and honesty which are qualities usually not associated with Politicians.
A man born into wealth and title who instead becoame a champion of the working masses a true Socialist in every way.
Shame he never became leader or PM, this Country would probably not be in the mess it is in today.
Anyhow R.I.P Tony Benn..........

A principled politician who will be missed. Legend.Agree with this.
He was an actual politicain. Not a yes man, not a publicity ***** but a man who wanted to help people less fortunate than himself. He will be missed.

I do not exaggerate when I say he was imho the greatest
briton of all time
May I suggest all his books and his diaries......what this giant did in just an average 1 day puts most of us to shame.....even in his twilight years his work ethic and integrity was phenomenal....you measure a legend by the size of his shadow...his will be enormous and ever lasting....his is to socialists what lloyd george was to liberals....tony benn even knew and worked with lloyd george , thats how long he was in politics
if you cut him open hed have truth carved all through the middle
this is a man who served for nearly 50 years as an MP , when he was born into priveliege and didnt even need to bother.....he invented things, he wrote endlessly on everything.....he was foreign secretary, he lead the anti iraq war march and went to see saddam and filmed it (check you tube) and coined the phrase weapons of mass distraction months before we illegally invaded
he had a depth of integrity that no human in this country possesses anymore
a staggering man, a phenomenal speaker and writer and an hilarious raconteur too
I will attend his funeral with thousands of others
devastated
My dad and best friend have him on their death lists :fist:
Edit: and rest in peace :umm2:

50 years in parliament
fighter pilot in the war
postmastser general
minsiter for technology
secretary of state for energy
foreign secretary
fought to get rid of his peerage which forced him to forfeit his seat until he had the law changed
inventor of products
huge fan of nationalizing energy , trains , utilities
anti war campaigner
anti european integration campaigner from the early 1970s
fought to reduce the house of lords
he was on the right side of each and every one of these arguments and if you ever watch highlights of him debate or argue or speak.....he is the only man ever who can not ust win the argument, he can state the exact law, the exact moment in history which lead to that law or describe an event or anecdote which applies perfectly to the exact debate at hand, not only that he could quote the exact date of each fact too.....absolute genius , but absolute integrity too

While I didn't always agree with his politics, Tony Benn was an absolute legend; passionate, driven... there aren't many like him to a generation. I don't know anyone who isn't saddened by this. Alav hashalom.

Really sad day for Politics.
One really incredible man who always stood up for what he believed in, who genuinely fought for those far less privileged than himself.
Who had to withstand absolutely disgusting comments about him personally from opponents and shockingly had the sick SUN paper calling him the most dangerous man in Britain.
He took it all with dignity and allowed his integrity to be the thing that shone through.
How odd that he was considered crazy by the Conservative party to hold such negative views as to Europe and to want to come out when now 25 years + on they are the most Euro sceptic of the main parties.
A man possibly ahead of his time, a politician worth respect and admiration and my thoughts are with his family at this sad time, what an amazing legacy he has left as an example of how poiticians should be.
If only those going into politics could have just a portion of his integrity as to serving the people they ask to elect them.
R I P. to a really good and great man.
An old school politician whose significance can't be denied, RIP

I have really enjoyed the TV programmes looking back at Tony Benn's life and career today.
Loved the Tristram Hunt speech from 2011 and the 'Labour's lost leader' programme late tonight.
Why they brought in Shirley Wiliams however is beyond me, I wouldn't give her the time of day.
What a life and what a career he had and definitely someone to be admired for his determination and his honesty.

Did anyone see the news report with an interview with him on looked like it was 90s or 00s, said something about ' the workers make the money and the rest control the money' or something like that?...
